mothershout
If you're interested in using Synthesizer V for vocals, or curious about how it works with Logic, my most recent three releases were all built with Logic Pro and SynthV. They're on Spotify and YouTube: You Feel Like Home: Spotify YouTube The Same Sun Shines On Everyone Spotify YouTube The Sky Beneath My Feet Spotify YouTube I'm happy to answer questions about Synthesizer V integration, workflow and effect processing. Atlas007
How does that compare with Vocaloid?
mothershout
In my humble opinion, Synthesizer V is much more advanced than Vocaloid, in both the quality of the output and the software that allows you to control it. There's a long thread that includes some discussion of the differences over at the VI-Control forum.
WilliamCase
Help!! When I try to load Syn V as a software instrument, the Syn V window opens briefly, then Logic Pro closes. For example: in Logic Pro, I select “New Tracks” from the pull-down. In the popup window, I select “Software Instrument.” Then, I click on the “Instrument” bar and select “AU Instruments/Dreamtonics Co Ltd/Synthesizer V Studio Plugin.” The Syn V window opens fro a second, then Logic Pro closes. Thank you! MacOS Ventura 13.3.1 Logic Pro 10.4.7 Synthesizer V Studio Pro
Jordi Torres
Hi William, Logic 10.4.7? Is that correct? Seems like a pretty old version of Logic to be running on macOS Ventura. About your actual issue, basically the plugin is crashing Logic. I would suggest you reach out to Dreamtonics for support unless anyone here owns a copy of that plugin and could give you some feedback (if they happen to have the same version of Logic and macOS you have). WilliamCase
Thank you for the reply! Updated to 10.7.7 but still having the same problem and hoping to take up LogicPro/SynthV user Mothershout's March 9 offer to answer questions. I've also posted to a SynthV forum.
mothershout
I haven’t experienced this crash, and I’m also using Logic 10.7.7. What version of SynthV are you using, and is it the full Pro version? Does it happen with a new empty project? Also, what happens if you create a new track with an empty channel strip and then select SynthV as the Instrument? Dox
mothershout, have you tried Emvoice?
mothershout
Yes, I tried Emvoice. I much prefer SynthV.

WilliamCase
@mouthershout, thank you for the replies! I'm using the full Pro version. I had the same crash when I created a new track with an empty channel strip and selected SynthV as the instrument. But ... I reached out to the developers - and they replied to my email, within 24 hours, with the following suggestion, which seems to have solved my problem: "According to our technical support team, there is a bug that some JS scripts may cause some compatibility issues among some VST/AU plugins in macOS. One of the solutions is to delete all the scripts in /Library/Application Support/Dreamtonics/Synthesizer V Studio/scripts and then try to restart the software. We hope you find this helpful and are looking forward to your reply. Have a nice day." Very grateful to all who took the time to reply. Bill Forgot to mention: though it crashed Logic Pro, the standalone SynthV app seemed to work fine.

mothershout
Sure, though it's been quite a while since I did the comparison, so I don't recall all the details, but from my notes: SynthV gives you a much better result out-of-the-box; play your line on a MIDI instrument, export the MIDI file to SynthV and assign words, and you'll get a good starting point. Then you can tune phonemes, voice modes, timing and so on. I found timing to be really difficult in Emvoice. SynthV "intelligently" generates the note sound so that the right part of the leading consonant lands on the start of the MIDI note. The "AI" voices in SynthV do really good transitions between notes and words. They don't always get it right, but when you need to edit notes, you have a lot of flexibility. This is subjective, but I found it easy to develop a SynthV workflow that suits how I write, allowing for revisions of lyrics and vocal harmonies while I'm working on an arrangement. (You can try SynthV for free, by the way)

AceDjs
Hi Guys, I tried to load in Synth v as a plug in on Logic Pro X, It says Disconnected and gives me a port number, not sure how to connect the standalone version to the logic or where to use the Port number Thanks

When you install SynthV, you should have the option to install the Audio Unit plugin. Then Synthesizer V will appear as an available virtual instrument to be configured for a track. rAC
@mothershout only listen to the Sky beneath my Feet atm, but that sounds great. Can I ask which ‘voice’ you used as the lead? And how long did it take to get that first approx 1:30 of it sounding like that?
mothershout
@rAC That’s Solaria, from Eclipsed Sounds. I think it’s (she’s?) the most versatile of all the SynthV voices I’ve tried. On that song, I didn’t do a lot of voice tweaking, since it was the first SynthV song I released, but I did spend quite a lot of time trying out different voice modes and settings. Maybe… two to three hours? If you listen to something more recent, like Some Say Love or A Zero For A Heart, you’ll hear the result of maybe 5-6 hours of total work. And thanks for the kind words! rAC
That’s cool. I thought the voice was a little ‘submerged’ in the mix overall and I will be listening to your others posted here but not tonight.

rAC
Listened to the other two songs this morning, by the 4 min mark in You Feel Like Home the vibrato on the sustained e’s just started to feel to repetitious and unvarying. But that apart I liked them.
