oortone
How would I most easily preview Relative volume changes without writing new automation points; and then when I've found my new relative level(s) write this new Volume offset to the whole track? I know I can do it with the little trim controls on the right hand side in the track header but that control seems to be unavailable for control surfaces (I use Artist Mix and various midi controllers) and I don't want to work with the mouse for this, this would be great to be able to reach from my control surface faders. I believe in ProTools this can be achieved using Trim in Read mode but that's not available in Logic, but perhaps I've missed som e clever some workaround? Atlas007
IIRW. it works in the mixer (using a Mackie MCU Pro). Have you tried with touch mode? Undo if the pass isn’t as wished…
oortone
I believe you are referring to relative mode, and if I would use that (probably using latch since touch would require me to keep one finger on each channel of interest) for a mix with multiple channels, play the track one or many times trying to find the levels I might end up with multiple undo levels. And even if there's only one undo level I believe the channel positions are lost when pressing undo. Otherwise, please describe how you would perform this because I can't figure out how. Mabe it's a bit unclear but I mean a situation where you want to find new offsets for the channels for the whole mix or song. Have you checked the Relative mixing automation mode? Quote Relative: Adds a secondary automation curve that offsets the existing primary curve for the selected parameter. There are three channel strip parameters for which you can create relative automation: Volume, Pan, and Send levels. When both relative and absolute automation exists for one of these parameters, both curves are visible and can be edited separately. Relative automation mode works in combination with Touch, Latch, and Write automation modes. Besides, using track alternatives might also be (well) an alternative… Edited April 2 by Atlas007
oortone
Not shure what you mean. The question is about relative mode. I'm trying to find something similar to trim mode and preview in ProTools, especially in conjunction with a control surface and multiple channels in one go. I'll probably get back to this question by recording a video or something, I guess it's a bit hard to explain what I mean. But it's a perfectly normal and common workflow that seems overly complicated in Logic. Edited April 7 by oortone
