Rob Alley
Hi friends--I'm creating a lead sheet score, lead vocals and chord names only. However there's a short section in the song where several vocal parts layer over each other simultaneously. At that point I'd like to display multiple staffs to show these parts, but I'd also like to have those staffs go away for the rest of the song. I can get them to appear, no problems there; but I haven't yet been able to figure out a way to remove them once the region they're associated with has ended--so now I have 3 staves for the remainder of my song, taking up needless space. Is there a way for me to do what I'm trying to do? Thanks! Rob

I'm sorry no one else has responded so far. Hopefully you're still around to see this and it sets you on the right track. Score Sets will do what you're asking. Score Sets let you customize which part(s) show up in a given score. However, I don't use them enough to tell you all about them. Create a new score set from the Layout menu in the score editor. The second menu item is show score sets and it brings up the window shown below with one item in the left column "All Instruments". Do NOT touch, alter or even look at that first score set. 😉 In the main Tracks view page, select the tracks you want to appear in your custom score set, then click the New menu in the upper left corner of the score sets window. Choose "New Set of selected Insts." A score set with only those tracks you selected will appear at the bottom of the list in the left half of the score sets window. It'll probably look like random gibberish, but that's because it uses the names you entered in the Channel Strips in your tracks window. I clicked on the chaos and renamed my score set "909, Basses, Melody". Below is a pic of what my custom score set produced. I opened the score editor in a separate window (⌘5) and used page view (the third purple icon at the window's top). Note: to see the score set you just created, you must click in the "Filter" menu at the top left of the score editor window you just opened and select the score set you created. A drop-down list will appear with that Logic project's score sets at the top, followed by a list of all of the instruments used in the project. Notice on the right page...a fourth part appears (it's called Sylenth, but its title didn't show up). That's a track where the first region starts at 5 2 1 1. That track's last region ends at 25 2 1 1, and it shows up no more thereafter in this score. That's because the Sylenth track has no regions before 5 2 1 1 or after 25 2 1 1. Just for the hell of it, I added empty regions before & after the existing regions on the Sylenth track and sure enough, that part appears all the way through the score. *So if I'm reading your original question right, this solves your issue. Kind of. (I think?...)* Make sure the 4-part chorus section you spoke of only has regions in the Tracks area during the section it appears in. Then it will disappear from the score. (Of course, I'm assuming you already know how to use staff styles to make that part appear correctly). There's quite a few serious Logic Gurus in this forum, Score Editor experts among them. If you have further questions, or if I led you down a bad path...heh...hopefully one of them can go into further details for you. Or inbox me, I'm easy to get along with and check in here a few times a week. All the best.
