adam2007
Hey guys.. as far as i know logic 7.2 is not able to use more than 4gb of RAM. is that true? can mac osx tiger 10.4.8 use more than 4gb with other applications? and if it is true, does logic 8 support this? or is it the operating system that has to support it, or both? wats the word on this situation? im running a mac pro quad core@ 2.66ghz, 8gb RAM thanks a lot guys

adam2007
Thanks for responding David.. that was a useful article to read. However, this article addresses RAM usage for the EXS 24 and logic. But what about RAM usage from third party plugins and Logic(if third party plugins can access >4gb RAM available system memory. Thanks -Adam

However, you can run third party software instruments like Kontakt or Broadway big Band from outside Logic using Soundflower as part of an Aggregate device and bring them into Logic using the External Instrument plug-ins to use more memory. It works well.

tyronehowe
Hi Doesn't this mean that your "song" is now spread over several software components that must be saved separately and kept in synchronization with each other?
adam2007
Hi Doesn't this mean that your "song" is now spread over several software components that must be saved separately and kept in synchronization with each other? Ya.. like i wouldnt even wanna bother running in standalone, i have like 20 tracks running with a different third party plugin running on each.. it HAS to be organized.. so i guess having 8gb RAM is not really worth especially considering that we have to run stuff outside of logic which would seem to be very inconvenient and a hassle to load everything one by one.. unless this progam takes care of this...which im pretty sure it doesnt. I did some research.. seems very inconvenient..if i were to run everything standalone i would have to save patches run 20 or more standalone instances of plugins. Some plugins dont even have standalone!.. i would have to save patches, and i would have to load them allll up when i open up my song file, LOL. so unethical. the only way i could see being maybe useful is to run all my tracks in logic until i fill up or close to 4 gb, then if i need more than run some instances of standalones to access more memory.. would that even work? but see.. this defeats the whole purpose of having 8gb of RAM anyway, because its like having to bounce down like we were used to. Youd think with more RAM we could get away from this and actually be able to mix a full environment at one instance, therefore having more control, and so much more convenient. i just dont understand why logic cant access more than 4gb. Seems like i wasted my money a bit on the 8gb.
