Score Editor: midi display while recording

Suppose you are building up a recording of midi parts and want to View the existing score while overdubbing a new part, can anyone advise how to set the display so that you can continue to see what you have already recorded as the sequencer plays? When I am in 'play' mode and hit 'record' a new page with blank score automatically pops into view so that I cannot see the score of what already exists.

It is probably something to do with linked/ active windows .. but i just dont get it at the moment

All comments appreciated

In L8 I assume.

:D

You can try 2 ways:

1: Click on the track you want to record, then click on the region with the dots toy want to see and hit rec.

2: If your tracks are close enough to esch other double click outside the staff to get full score mode and you can see all parts together, depending on zoom level.

Thanks ... perhaps I need to clarify: let's say you have a keyboard part in front of you that ends at bar 8. You extend the region to bar 16 so that you have 8 bars blank to record ( bar 9 - 16). My probem is that I cannot keep the already recorded music visible on the screen once I press record mode or toggle. A new screen pops up with blank notation, obscuring the screen which had the notes on.

Yeah,I understand.

Not on my mac at the mo and was busking a bit.

I had noticed that it was possible to see the dots of a different region in playback, but haven't tried it in record as far as I can remember.

Least not with that specific intention.

Forgive me for suggesting yet another potential workaround.

May be useless but :

Open the score window for the region you want see and minbimize arrange, hit record.

??Failing that it's a print job,I suppose, unless somebody knows better?

thank Cloggy and Major... still unable to view the existing score as I record. Switching off and on, the yellow and and purple link buttons, and the blue catch and fiddling with Global preferences ... all this does nothing to prevent a new blank page popping into view immediately I press record or toggle record

Anyone else? ... this would be a great help to my workflow... even if you tell me that what I am asking is simply not possible :)

That's strange. I can do it here in my system.

Just checking: You left the link off (Grey color) in the score's window right ? Because there's an arrange's link icon too far above. The one you have to disable is the icon just above the score.

Hello, i solved the same problem like above, but when you disable the link button, you can see the previous recorded notes, but now you don't see the notes that you are recording. If you turn the link button on again, you see the notes you are recording, but not the previous recorded notes.

I just want to see my notes merging in the previous recorded part, just like in cubase.

You can do the same as the above and then:

Select the track you want to merge with, and duplicate the track with identical setings.

In Score, make sure you're in full score view( dbl click outside staff) then ,with the duplicate track selected hit record.

You'll see the new notes on the staff immediately below the one you want to merge with,so it's fairly clear what's going where.

Merge the tracks after if you want.

Compromise.
