anonymity22
i'm thinking about getting an iMac 24' with 2.8GHz intel core 2 extreme, 2GB memory, 500GB 72rpm hard drive. My question is since i use a lot of soft synths in my recordings will this machine handle it well enough? Does anyone use the IMac 24' with logic and have u had any problems? Just trying to do a little research before I buy. some of the particular soft synths i use are sample logic elements, spectrasonics atmosphere, sonik synth etc. thanks for any responses and input. Spunkadellic
there will be no problems...i use an ibook 1.2 with 1.25 ram for my portable rig...it works great...to many high quality sampled synths will need to be frozen, but not the soft synths - 60 audio tracks no problem

BCProject
Do you use the amp-modeling stuff in the UX2 much? I dumped mine and returned to my PodXT because I kept getting random bursts of white-noise with my UX2 - mostly when playing/recording guitar stuff. luckyal
i'm thinking about getting an iMac 24' with 2.8GHz intel core 2 extreme, 2GB memory, 500GB 72rpm hard drive. My question is since i use a lot of soft synths in my recordings will this machine handle it well enough? I've asked the same question on this forum before, and some folks responded, but I'm not so sure of the performance. Here's my reasoning. All firewire connections on the iMac's run off of 1 bus. I will connect 2 external FW800 (daisy chained) to the FW800 port and then connect a FW400 MOTU traveler to the FW400 port. Think about this...the audio you're recording has to come through the interface, into the iMac, and go back out to the Hard Drive through the same FW bus...and all of this must happen in realtime. I would have jumped ship from my Dual G5 to the 24" iMac a long time ago, but this is the only concern that's on my mind. Any thoughs?
inmazevo
Hi anonymity22, You should be fine for power. 2 things though: 1. Verify that your audio interface, if Firewire, works well with the Agere chipset FW controller that's in that iMac. You should be able to find this out either here, or somewhere on the support page for the interface. Which interface will you be using? 2. Make sure your plugins are compatible with Leopard. Many are at this point, but some are not. Take care, - zevo
