Logic Pro for OS Catalina

I would love to get started learning about and working with Logic Pro.  However it seems that my IMac. (late 2012 8GB of Ram and 500memory) is not up to spec for the current version.

The Mac store says that they do not want to upgrade it past Catalina 10.15.7 as it might be too much for the system

Is there some way that I can get/ buy an older version of Logic Pro that I can use with Catalina?  It is not available on the Mac store.

Buying a whole new high spec IMac to get started on a new journey seems like too much of a leap.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

You won't be able to buy it on that machine, but if you have a friend with a more modern Mac, you could use that machine to log in to the AppStore on your own account, make the purchase, then go back and download it on your old Mac - the App Store *should* let you down the last version compatible with your system.

Yep, been there done that a few years ago to upgrade from L9 to X on my old El Capitan installation.

Note that sometimes there may appear some glitches when attempting to download an older version on older OS. At least back in 2019 there were quite a few user reports over at Apple forums if I recall correctly, particularly with the Mojave version.

Hi All,

Thanks for your help.  Unfortunately I just tried this and it does not work anymore.

I am not sure now how to get a refund from Apple. Any further help would be appreciated.

Best wishes
