originalcliche
Hey all When recording many times I wish to overdub stuff that I cant play at the same time in one shot. Such as I'll play a chord progression with a piano, and then on the same track I want to go over the chords with a melody line but each time I dothis I can't view the chords again or view the melody and the chords together on the piano roll. It goes either or. Also when I make some musicical composition Ill use either a 4 bar loop or an 8 bar loop and keep adding to it until I'm satisfied with the different parts. ONce I got all the different parts I want then I copy and paste to arrange. Like lets say if I want to only have the chords playing at one part but want to play the melody initially in the 4 to 8 bar loop to get me started is there a way I can add another track to the same channel of the same audio units. Sort of like how you can in Reason 4 with the + sign. I hope that makes some sense. Thanks in advance for the help
Justin-Ch
I've started to lose track of your questions but: With the bit about overdubbing, you'll get a new midi region on top of the old one & if you click on it to view it in the piano roll/matrix you'll just see the newest notes. You need to use your glue tool to join those overlapping regions into one. Yes, you can have lots of tracks on the arrange page that are for the same Channel Strip. There should be a preset key command for adding new ones (which I can't remember without Logic being open!)
rob glow
Yep, the key command is Shift-Command-S (or something like that). I do a fair bit of piano recording with right hand on one 'track' and left hand on another - although both using the same instrument.
originalcliche
Thanks to you both, it fixed my problem.
Justin-Ch
Also if you are using the Demix feature, especially useful with drums on a multi instrument like Ultrabeat or the EXS, that creates new Arrange tracks for the same channel strip/instrument for each drum sound it is splitting your original midi file into.
