polanoid
I can start it and record what I'm doing, but no mouse-clicks reach the recorded software if the click happens inside the recorded screen rectangle. Anyone else? Bummer because I can't record GIFs right now. But maybe I'm doing something wrong?
des99
Tip: https://getkap.co Much better than Licecap imo, which I stopped using last year. Edit: I just checked, and yes I see the same behaviour with Licecap on Sonoma. Edited October 24 by des99
polanoid
Thanks for the hint, @des99! To save me from RTFM (I can't even find the manual, actually...), can you describe the workflow how to record a GIF in Kap, please? All I now have is this little icon with a small menu that does nothing in the menu bar:
des99
I don't leave it running, I only run it when I want to capture something, and it immediately goes into capture mode as soon as it's run. With it running in the menu bar, to start a new capture just left click on it's icon in the menu bar (Right-clicking on it gives you a menu), drag out a window selection and hit the record button. After recording, you get a window where you can specify the size/FPS parameters you want, and then "Convert" to GIF. You can do this as many times as necessary to check the resultant GIF filesize/quality etc.

Surely doesn't happen here, a left click just displays the non-functional menu I showed a screenshot of... David Nahmani
I'm trying this also here, thanks @des99 for the tip. A left click pops up a dashed frame I can adjust to determine which part of my screen I can capture, along with a set of buttons including a big red record button at the bottom of my screen to start the recording. When the recording starts, the Kap logo in the menu bar turns into a Stop button.

Another click on the same icon that started the recording (or the Escape key if Kap is still in key focus). 36 minutes ago, polanoid said: Surely doesn't happen here, a left click just displays the non-functional menu I showed a screenshot of... (right-click does nothing) I don't see Kap's menu bar icon in your screen shot. Your screenshot shows what happens when you click on Sonoma's "Something is recording my screen" icon, which just shows you what is currently capturing your screen. This is not Kap's menu bar icon. This is what it looks like in the menu bar: And while recording (it turns into a Stop button): Edited October 24 by des99
60s Pop Man
In the past year or so, I started using the built-in QuickTime screen recording function.

OverTime105
It is not working for me anymore. Started around the same time as you posted this and still not working and I am lost without it. It allows me to open it , click to record but then my mouse does not work within the box. Therefore, I cannot do any actions. If there is a video running it will still take all the photos so I have been recording videos to then record it as a gif

LiceCap still works for me here in macOS Sonoma 14.1. Sometimes you may have to click outside the box onto the Logic Pro background to give Logic Pro focus? Or use Command-Tab? Although right now I tested it and I didn't have to do that. Kap is great too, although I still enjoy use LiceCap for the quick .gif. Solution David Nahmani Posted November 20 Solution Share Posted November 20 I realize that I'm using LiceCap version 1.31, not the latest 1.32 version, maybe that's why we're having a different experience? You can download LiceCap 1.31 under "Old Versions" at the bottom of the page: https://www.cockos.com/licecap/
des99
Yeah, 1.31 seems to work...

Kap is a lot more complicated if not convoluted to handle, especially if one does not use it daily and has to remember how it works every time.
David Nahmani
Great! Glad we were able to find the cause. 🙂 I agree that LiceCap is great for capturing quick animated screenshots.
