Freeform intro, then trigger pre-recorded tracks

I'm trying to do a live recording that starts with a freeform piano intro (out of time, no set duration), then I want to trigger all my pre-recorded backing tracks when the singer comes in. What's the best way to do this?

I wonder if using the Live Loop could be of some help here.

Your backing recorded material being in a Live Loop or Scene which you start playback with a preset command. That would probably imply using non-looping loop(s) / scene(s).

You then play/record your piano on your (regular) track(s) and your singer(s) on his/her…

I was suggesting the Live Loop method as I assumed the freeform piano intro implied there were no length set to same yet.

Just play your freeform intro and when you're ready to trigger the playback, press play or use a MIDI Controller to start playback?

Am I wrong in believing that pressing play wouldn’t record the piano intro and/or vocalist’s performances?

Ugh... I was considering only the playback of the backing track, not the recording portion.

Then you're right, for recording a free form intro of undetermined length and triggering backing tracks with only Logic Pro as software, the best is probably to use Live Loops and trigger a scene to start playback.

Otherwise you'd need to use different software, one for the playback of the backing track, and the other for the recording.

While I do have tried to really get into LiveLoops, it still feels clunky to me, so I suggest another route:

- Set up the vocal recording Track as desired and click its Record button
- Set up a Summing Track Stack (STS) with two Sampler Instruments (SI)
- SI 1 is a piano
- Set SI 1's Key Range in its Track Inspector so that it doesn't react to the lowest (or highest) key of your keyboard
- SI 2 triggers one Zone with the bounced playback on the lowest (or highest) key only (or multiple Zones on that same key for multitrack playback), in One Shot mode
- Select the STS Track

Now you can go into Record, play your heart out on dat pianer, and then, with a subtle nod to the singer, trigger the playback with a single short tap on A-1.
