Flute Music
I am trying to decide between buying the RME 400 and 800 - besides the obvious difference in price and inputs, I keep reading the big problem with the 800 is no volume knob, but that the 400 might have one? Can anyone clarify, because when I look at pics online of both, it looks like there is volume knob on both, so I am confused. I currently have a digi 002. thanks! gertvanhoof
The volume knob on the FF800 merely controls the headphone output level. Best regards, Gert
helicopter
if it helps : I just got the FireFace 800, and I love it - the routing software makes the extra inputs really worth while - I'm even selling my mixing desk - just don't feel I need it with this great unit ! Flute Music
thanks for the feedback! helicopter, how do you feel about the volume knob issue? have you had any issues with that?
helicopter
I must admit, I don't really use the volume knob on the front of the unit - as mentioned above, it controls outputs 9/10 (headphones by default) - but you could use this as your main monitor out if you wanted to. Are you aware that the total mix software (included) is like a virtual mixing desk ? . .with output faders on it - this can be used very effectively to control output volume; you can even MUTE / DIM / MONO the main output etc.. .. I bought a Mackie BIG KNOB, and have the DAW output fed into that - this then controls my volume for monitoring / switching speakers etc. - it's really nice to use , and again I would recommend it. Hope this helps.
