Tarekith
I'm guessing no, but is there anyway to see how much gain reduction is being applied with Ad Lim? Otherwise it looks just like you need to push the input as close to 0dBFS as possible, and adjust the gain by the amount of reduction you want, correct? This is the first limiter I've seen that doesn't show you that info...
mattrixx
This is a great job for your ears. Seriously, that is the best way to use these types of limiters. If you have a really good pair of calibrated meters, things are even easier.
Tarekith
Sorry I guess I should clarify my needs. I do mastering part time for local bands and musicians, being doing this for about 5 years now. After switching to OSX from XP over a year ago, the one app I haven't been able to leave is Wavelab (which I currently run in Parallels) used for my mastering projects. Most of the time I used Waves L2 in this environment, but I've never upgraded my Waves mastering bundle to the OSX versions, and i'm not the happiest with the way they've been handing updates lately, so I doubt I will. Having recently moved to a new studio in Seattle, I'm now relooking at the limiting tools available in OS X, so I can leave the Windows world behind once and for all as part of the move. As part of this, I'm looking at Logic 8's plug ins, in an attempt to compare them as close as possible to what I already have and know very well. Certainly I can use Inspector XL to check the levels pre and post processing, but I was wondering if Ad Lim reports the gain reduction value on it's GUI in some way. Like I said, it doesn't appear to be the case, but I wanted to ask as this wouldn't be the first time I've missed something when it comes to Logic. So yes, definitely planning on using my ears in day to day use, but for comparisons sake, trying to understand as much as I can about the tools I'll be possibly switching to. Now if only Sonalksis would get their limiter released.... Thanks again for any help!
mattrixx
Yes, unfortunately, there is no indication of actual gain reduction in the GUI. I use a PC with my old RME Multiface card in it and lightpipe from my RME FF800 to the Multiface and use Digicheck on the PC. It provides awesome metering, though this doesn't really help you out in any way.
Spunkadellic
out of the hundreds of plugins i had for pro tools mix...os9...i mis the L2 the most!!!
Tarekith
Yes, it does work so well for light limiting, no doubt. I never did like L3 however...
charlieo
Ditto, L2 sounds very good, the L3 sounds kinda flabby.
involver
Wavearts Finalplug and the limiter in Ozone (watch out for all the other enhancers as they can cause more trouble than they're worth) are both fairly good for this kind of thing, but the L1 and L2 do work in a nice way to...
