Logic with firestudio project?

Hello, is anyone using logic with a firestudio project? I'm having a bunch of garbled audio problems that really seem to come out of nowhere. Nothing I change in the audio preferences seems to have any effect. Its just strange clicking and popping that comes and goes as it pleases. I am running leopard and they say on the presonus website that the project drivers are compatible... Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this? Thanks!

I just picked it up about a week ago. I've been trying to contact presonus about this but my posts have gone unanswered and I can't get any of their tech people to write or call me back. I only have 1 gig of ram, not sure if that would make much of a difference because it doesn't seem like a memory problem, but I'm out of ideas. Is your system still having the problem or did adding the project cure it?

Sad to say that it hasn't fixed the problem. It is rare that it happens but when it does resetting the units usually takes care of the Crackle of Doom. Since they are both still hooked up it could still be the firepod causing the problem. I will try unhooking it and see how it goes. As for RAM I am running 4Gigs and it still happens with the pod attached. Grr.

OK so I talked to our buddies at Presonus finally. They said that most people have no problems but they have had some issues with Leopard and the FSP. They are waiting on some tests and then they will contact Apple about working on the core audio drivers. As for now I was told to try going back to Tiger... Time to remember how to partition...

Thanks for talking to the presonus people. Truly unfortunate. Though I am still, for the most part, pleased with everything Presonus I've played with so far, nothing screams "Trust me I'm a professional" like having to restart your hardware while siting with a client because their tracks all sound like they are being played through a pair of rice cakes.

I am only running the FSP now, I've unhooked the Firepod and no crackling yet however I haven't had a decent session with it yet. Maybe I can get a noise out of it by sunday. Science, after all, isn't about making something stop. It's about finding out what makes it start and then destroying it! ....err... fixing the problem that is. Either way.

reddsax, what version of Tiger are you running?

I'm having the same problem with my FSP. I had a Firepod and it worked without issue for a few days and up and quit and I couldn't get it working again so I "upgraded". Ever since I haven't recorded. I was told that an option was returning to Tiger but not over 10.4.8.

LOVE LOGIC 8!

I had the same issues with the firestudio using Leopard and Tiger. It is a bigger problem than presonus thinks. I didnt have time to wait for the new "drivers" so I returned it and got an apogee duet. Although it only has two inputs, the sound on this thing is awesome.

just thought i'd pipe in so people dont feel so alone.

same problem- on latest version of tiger. although switching from 44 to 48 generally works- its more often the problem that "firecontrol" freezes before i have the opportunity. it sometimes goes as far as to force a restart on my entire computer. i think the "only 10% of people" experiencing this problem must be 99% of the mac community. totally unprofessional, and makes me look bad. it happens at least once a session on a good day, several on a bad one. why doesnt this thing work like the old firepod???

I have the FP-10. My problem is not exactly like yours, but I do have to Switch from 44.1 to 48, then back to 44.1 in order to get any audio out of it. Once I do that, It works really well. Spoke with Presonus several weeks ago, and they are trying to get Apple to update the Core Audio Driver. This is the Only problem so far that is making my whole new "MAC" experience a flawless one!

Peter

TWM, that's just what I did. Today I returned the FireStudio and got the FirePod, made sure there were no remnants of the Studio's drivers and plugged it in. It's working great. All it's missing is the flashy lights and 2 instead of 4 phantom power busses.

yeah i mean, im kind of in a spot. i only have 2 outboard channels- which means when i record drums, i need the fs's extra preamps- which are ever so slightly better than the fp's. but what good are slightly better preamps if i'm loosing business because i look like a clown with kiddie equipment that fails a couple times a session??

curse that hooligan who stole my firepod :x :x :x
