Flood123
I am a Noob. I am looking for the best analog consol, eq and compression, and tape emulation i can find. What would you use. I was looking at ac-1 ac-2 McDSP but as everyone but me knew it is for protools only. I am also looking at the ssl duende and the universal audio nevana. I have heard good and bad things about the liquid mix. I dont want to spend a grip of cash and realize i made a mistake. Please help. thank you
Slobby
As you can see from my avatar, I'm a focusrite fanboy. I have just got a liquid mix, and I run it with a focusrite saffire. Version 2.0 of the liquid mix software is extremely stable. Sample delay is now down to 520 and I think this resolves many of the issues that early users complain about with lag and so on. Sound wise, I'm no pro but I hear cold crystalline digital go to smooth fat analog instantly. Being able to have 32 tracks of vintage desks and eqs all happening at once just has to be a good thing. Objectively, some things that I am prepared to live with are: - on my macbook, I only have one FW bus. This means that if I max out the liquid mix there isn't enough bandwith on the FW bus to run both it and the Saffire. I'm prepared to fallback on the internal sound card for mixing purposes, - this in turn seems to cause some problems. I usually have about half a dozen cycles of play-core overload-play before the buffering/cpu adapts (I suspect its the L2 cache, but that's just a gut feeling) All in all, I'm very happy and I can't believe the depth, clarity and all around fat juicyness I'm getting here. To my ears, it's gold. But what suits me may not suit you or others. I went to a big local music store (which had a HD setup) and listened to the thing very clinically before committing the bucks. Please do the same.
Flood123
Does anyone know of a comparable plug in to the Mcdsp ac2 analoge tape emulation that can be used with logic?
Slobby
Have a look at http://www.airwindows.com. Iron Oxide is supposed to be very good. There are other free plugs on the site, including a fffrrreeee console emulation that does Neve, SSL & API emulations. Perfect for sitting over your 2-bus and introducing some drive. If you are going to follow a MiLAR approach, you'll find there's plenty of alternative plug-ins that will allow you to go that way, just with your own unique take on the sound.
