darkecho
Does anyone use a Roland Fantom X series keyboard? If so, how easy is it to setup? and which ones of you are on Leopard? I am considering using my fantom for notes and drum data. I also want to assign the knobs to parameters for effects in automation
darkecho
anyone? I am interested in using the MPC pads
RolandFan
I use an X6 with Logic. as my main controller (including using the pads). It is very easy to do. Just set up an external midi object in your environment and you're off to the races.
darkecho
Do you have to install any special drivers or anything? or do I just plug it in and make an object and bam? any configuration I have to do? Can you assign the knobs to automation parameters or anything? also, can the joy stick be used to control parameters, or the theramin thing for that matter? That would ROCK! how are the Fantom MPC style pads... are they good compared to the AKAI MPC 16 or other top notch MPCs?
gsilbers
if you dont have the cd rom it came with then go to the roland site and download the fantom driver for mac. i duuno if its compatible for leopard but i think the tiger driver will work. after installing the driver then its plug and play. the pads will transmit midi data from the getgo. if u are in logic 8 i think u can create a multi instrument and open an external inst. plugin and in the in and outs select the fantom which will appear cause it will appear in the audio-midi setup after u installed the drivers. darkecho
cool thanks! how are the Fantom built in MPC compared to an AKAI 16mpd?
bobbybass
the pads are slighty softer and smaller, to me they dont really feel like an mpc at all. if you are looking for something close to the feel of an mpc maybe consider something like the mpd 24 or 32. they are great units and good alternatives
