wizzkidder
Yes, I'm a newbie. Yes, it's possible that this inquiry has already been made but I tried different searches and couldn't come up with anything. When I placed a drum kit loop on a track and opened up the piano roll window, I realized that I could move certain notes up and down the keyboard layout. In doing so, I realized that there is an entire drum / percussion kit available to me. Other than placing notes in different areas of this piano roll window to come up with a desired rhythm or sound, is there an easier way to "play drums" or create your own drum tracks in Logic? I'd appreciate any help you could give me on this. Thanks!
yojames
Welcome Wizz, Breakout the manual and read all about Ultrabeat. That will be where you want to start creating your drum tracks. Also look up macprovideo.com for some free tutorials on Ultrabeat.

yofi
Do you have a midi keyboard hooked up to your computer. If not if you hit Tab you can use your computers keyboard to input midi notes - these will be/can be mapped to the individual notes represented by the piano roll. enjoy

Also, for more advanced possibilities, you can trigger the drums in Logic by way of an electronic drum kit, or by a drum pad controller. Here's a USB one that I use to very nice effect. Just plug and play: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ControlPad/
wizzkidder
Thanks for the tips! I do have an M-Audio keyboard that I was going to hook up and see what I can do with it. I wasn't sure if I would be able to use it to play drums with, using Logic. Also GarageBand has musical typing. I didn't think Logic had anything like that since it's geared more towards professional sound recording. I also like that drum pad as well, I'll have to see if there's a local shop that I can demo it at.
