Whats the best way to get eSata into a MBP?

Recommended Posts

heya guys

I would like a FIRE FACE 800 or FIRE WIRE solution in general where i can share between MAC and PC platforms., i was hoping to get a Xpress card to connect both "Firewire 800" to the "Fireface 800"and "eSata" to a "hard drive".

Can anyone recommend the right cards out there for a MBP intel C2D?

Cheers

I'm using the Bytech card. I think I found it online for about $40. It doesn't say that it is compatible with OSX, but a quick search of various forums led me to numerous people saying that it worked like a charm. I think I had to download the proper drivers, which I found with a quick Google search. Working superbly for me here. Threw my performance right through the roof. 8)

Bytecc (sometimes spelled Bytech). I think there's only one eSATA model. I could do a Google search to find a link for you. Let's see...

Here you go:

It's the cheapest I've found, and runs great. And to use it on a Mac (which I do), you just download the drivers on-line. Here's a link to that:

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip and all the help, yeah the spelling changed everything.

What i do not understand is why there are no sata express cards out there for osx as you stated, or sata and firewire as ell., strange

There are. But for some reason they're way higher priced. There's the Sonnet one, and a few other brands. I just stumbled on the Bytecc, because of OSX guys talking about it on a forum.

As for firewire ExpressCards, they're out there as well. When I was out on the west coast this summer I stopped by Fry's and picked up a 2-FW400 and 1-USB2.0 card (I believe it's Koutech), as well as a multimedia card-reader ExpressCard (Belkin), and I saw FW800 ExpressCards there as well. Google them.

Here are some more links in case you're all Googled out:

Happy hunting! :D
