albertlopez
Anyone having Ivory running in Logic 8 recommend it?
gsilbers
i like the logics piano. for me akoustic piano from NI is one of the best. i hevnt heard from the italian expansion and wish all those programs had the option of onl installing one piano instead of 3. i also used the bosendorfer from big fish i think its the company. thay all sound excelent its just the feel of it. ivory is more present which is not necessarily good all the time. bosendorfer is more dynamic and akustic NI is good overall. logic is like middle ground in rating and its comparable to the other 3. ive been using the logic piano a lot lately and compares fairly good against the others. just add a nice convert hall space desginer verb. i use it for film score type of stuff and jazzy electronic. rjtemple
I find there is quite a bit of difference between LS8 pianos and Ivory. Ivory is much more dynamic (going from soft to loud samples), and the sound is better. Big step forward quality-wise esp. for solo piano. But it puts about 8 times more strain on your CPU than an EXS piano...
sayenex
I settled on Pianoteq- ( pianoteq.com ) It's only 15 MB, so It loads and plays very fast, and I think it sounds great. and did I mention it's 15MB!? ivory's what like 40 GB? I actually recorded with it in a song I just put in the listening booth. (you have to wait until the 3rd verse though to hear it) they also have sound demos on their website. anyway, check it out. it's a very versatile and great sounding plug-in. Matt Mayfield
No, you won't ever find a piano plugin sound that sounds just like a piano, because the sound is coming from speakers, and not from a piano! You can find many plugins that sound convincingly like a recording of a piano, though. 8)

mccello
Anybody tried the steinway from Jam Pack Symphony orchestra? I love it.
syncsailor
within a pop or rock track, i think the logic Yamaha grand works fine. very convincing. but a more exposed track calls for Ivory. both the Steinnway and Bosenedorfer are wonderfully dense. and the Ivory Yamaha C7 sits in a full track almost as well as the real thing. overall i think Ivory is amazing. and i wasn't totally disappointed in Logics piano fare in the first place. very much worth the price in my opinion. luckyal
Sampletank 2.0 & Sonic Synth have some really nice piano's. They're not as dynamic as NI or Ivory, but in a song they're perfect. By the way, if you go to esoundz.com they have a Group Buy that will cost you $199 for about $1500 worth of content. I promise you won't be disapointed
dkgross
no comparison..sorry..to me, there is simply NOTHING better than the Ivory Italian Grand. It's simply amazing.

luckyal
David, I'm assuming that you're comparing Italian to others in your arsenal?
carya
I use TruePiano. Its about 50MB and uses components from samples and modeling. IMHO, it has the best dynamic response of any piano plug in I've tried. It doesn't sound as great as some of the bigger samples, but its much more fun to play. There's a 40 day demo at the website which only uses one piano model (there are currently 3). Its not tweakable but its very playable and only $189 USD. The trick is to adjust the dynamics response correctly for your keyboard and your touch. They just released the Mac AU, RTAS, and VST versions a month ago. The demo is only AU. dkgross
David, I'm assuming that you're comparing Italian to others in your arsenal? Yeah..I've got the EXS ones, all the other Ivory ones, NI's Acoustik (which, imvho..is pretty damn nice as well), a Motif and a Triton. I go back to the Italian Grand everytime. what I really love about it is that with just a little different EQ, etc..I can soften it, or brighten it, or do whatever else I want with it. It's insanely dynamic and responsive, and it just 'feels' good under your fingers, no matter what your using as a controller.

luckyal
If your music is not overloaded with other instuments and you're using Piano as your base, Steinberg The Grand will give you that "liveness" that most sampled pianos lack. I'm not a big fan of Steinberg, but they win in this category for me. If you music is pretty loaded and you need a great mid-high range sounding piano, Estonia Grand is pretty. I end up choosing Estonia 80% of the time. Found a killer deal for you: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Tascam-PMI-Estonia-Acoustic-Grand-Giga-CD?sku=706994&src=3SOSWXXA
Randall Voth
My wife is having excellent success with http://www.truepianos.com/ for the CDs that accompany her piano course. This plugin does not suffer from the change in tone between layers that is really evident with simple piano arrangements. Since it is modeled, it loads in a flash compared with the gigabyte piano samples and helps when you don't have gobs of memory. They have a 20% Christmas discount now, making it $140. An excellent deal, especially since they allow you to authorize it on several computers for personal use (like a desktop and a notebook). For regular playing, she prefers her Steinway & Sons grand piano, but I had trouble fitting that into her Dual G5
