pings22
Hi everyone, I recently bought a Canopus ADVC 110 so I can view Logic's video output on an external LCD television. Just about everything works fine; video and audio from the imported quicktime movie show up when Logic's "Video Output" is selected to "Firewire" (though I did notice that Logic only seems to like .dv codec). But here's my question: is it possible to send the audio output from the current session--and not just the audio in the quicktime movie-- to the LCD TV? I'd like to be able to check my mixes by toggling between my reference monitors and the little TV speakers. My audio interface is a Duet, running Logic 8 on a Mac Pro 2.66. I want to be able to mute the Duet and hear the audio from my current session in the TV speakers. If anyone has any experience with this, knows if this is possible, etc., I'd appreciate your help! Thanks, Nathan
zaque
You could try importing the audio from the QT into a track in Logic (I think it's 'Option -> Movie -> Import Audio to Arrange' or something like that...dont' have logic in front of me). Then connect some outputs on your audio interface to the audio in's on the TV. Next, when you want to hear stuff through the TV speakers just send the sound to the outputs on your card that are wired to the TV. That way would can send the QT audio AND the audio you're creating so see what it sounds like. Another option would be to just get something like a Mackie BigKnob and just wire the TV to one of the monitor outs on it but I think you can probably do what you want with what you've already got. There may be a way to do this with the Canapus but I don't have one and I'm not sure. Thinking of buying one. Is it worth it?

Thanks, Nathan The easiest would be to change the audio driver in Logic to the ADVC 100, if it has a core audio driver. Open the Audio Driver preferences in Logic. Does the ADVC 110 show up under the Core Audio device drop down menu? If so, select it and Apply Changes.

Ok, I just checked with an ADVC1000 and it does not show up as an available Core Audio device. I assume the ADVC110 is similar, but check anyway. It would show up in Audio Midi Setup if available. The only way I can think of to get audio out the ADVC would be to bounce the mix, and add the audio to a movie.

brianm
video over firewire from Logic needs to be DV. Otherwise the computer has to convert it to DV on the fly, which uses too much CPU
