honey,

If you link to a page that actually has a sample of what you're talking about, someone may be able to help you.

You need to go to the timeandspace website:

http://www.timespace.com/product/8B-11/6/8-bit/8+Bit+Stylez.html

There is an .mp3 demo (1 minute) to download for free.

Gads, this brings back memories !

Actually, everything you hear here could easily be chopped together in

Logic, these days. Think of how many pints you could buy with the

£59.95 you saved, and have fun doing it, too...........

Crikey that brings back memories - I can remember programming those 3 voice chips when they were in a C64! :D

Yup, but I don't get the hype. They really aren't anything I'd write home to mom about, ya know? Just your basic quasi-analog subtractive synth.

Got it. So, vocode, bitcrush, spin, rinse, repeat . . .Next!

Mmm . . . pints . . . frosty-foamy-amber-beverages! Hey, you get enough Guiness in those old birds at the pub, they start to sound vocoded too!

Exactly ! Piece of cake in Logic, with a few really nasty freeware plugins

that crash your AuVal ! ! ! ! !

Some of the ones in my local sound vocoded (and bitcrushed), even when

they're sober, Fader .............

I agree. I think it’s all part of this “because it’s old (or should I say retro :) ) then it must be good!” current way of thinking.

Good point, but if you’re not used to mangling audio, a £60 sample CD might be the trick - would be faster too!

A friend of mine managed to buy 10 of these chips from Commodore (had to use addresses of relatives because they would only sell one to a customer) and designed a synthesizer using them. And you know what? It sounded crap. I told him it would, but he wanted to spend all that time and money anyway. I think he got more fun from designing /building than using!
