jaytranzmit
Hi guys, I took delivery of a new 8 core Mac pro yesterday and on delivery the box was quite badly damaged on one corner. Opened up and all looked fine and insides looked in shape. I've reported to Apple and may return on that basis. After setting it up and installing Logic I went to repair disc permissions and it came up with a message of something in the wrong location. Anyway, redid that and it cleared it but, the length of time it takes to do a repair disc permission action seems to be extremely long. With my previous machine DP 2.7 running Toger it would list as it was running through and be complete in maybe 1 minute or less. This shows no indication, only an estimated of under 1 minute message but will take around 5 minutes and the process bar looks like it's hung until the very last 30 seconds. Is this normal with these machines or could there be something not quite right? I've clicked verify disc and this passes, it's more to do with the length of time for disc repair that has me a little concerned. Thanks
triplets
It's normal in Leopard, permissions take way longer because it checks for more stuff. Only repair permissions after installing new software.
jaytranzmit
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I wasn't sure if that could be the case with Leopard. I've arranged with Apple to replace the unit anyway as the box has obviously been thrown down and I'm very cautious about how much impact the unit has taken because of this. All looks good but, somethimes looks can be deceiving.
