automating the loop

Im just wondering , when I press the loop button on a track how would I automate it? How would I seperate the loop? Like if I want a large part of the loop to mute would I have to mute it with the automation or can I make sections with the loop on the same track?

Add an empty region where you want the loop to end. Repeat the original region where you want to loop to begin again, click on the loop button again.
