Automap, zones and modes... please help!

Hi

I'm using a Novation SL zero. Automap is working as it should, however that doesn't do much for my specific purposes. What I've been trying to do is setup my own mappings for each separate Logic session. I have cross referenced all the documentation I could find, but somehow I seem to have the same problems over and over. If I work from the SL zone, with no mode, I only get one set of controls to use. If I create new modes, some controls eventually end up conflicting with each other at random. If I create brand new zones, no other template seems to work for custom mapping. And so on... I'm really confused and annoyed.

Can anyone please tell me where I'm going wrong? Every document i've read explaining zones and modes has made no sense to me so far

Thank you

Isn't the point of the Automapping to be able to pull up any of the inserts and have the controls already assigned without going thru the 'learn' mode for each and every knob?

Automap 2.0 should be out this month and Logic is one of the programs the SL works with.

There are ways to manually assign the controller, but is seems like a waste of time to do in a 'one time only' situation for individual songs.

When most of your sessions are dance tunes made of 6 tracks max and a LOT of plugins, and you want to tweak some of those, depending on session, in live performance, why on earth would you need 16 real time pans, 16 sends, and something like a real time glue tool... ?!

if you know of a way to solve this without getting the 'controller is already assigned' message, please do help. Otherwise, please let me be the judge of what is a waste of my time, no disrespect

ummmm yea... no disrespect.

My apologies, I forgot to read the part that said you were doing this live  Oh wait, you didn't state that.

The Remote SL zero is set up to be used in Track mode or Plug in mode.

Unfortunately, you have to select the track and the plug in - but everything is already mapped.

Otherwise, I think you get to program 3 parameters per plug in (not using Logic's learn mode, but the Remotes learn function) and save the set up (0:55 into the video).

Maybe a better option would be Ableton live

This is all I have to offer to you at this time, and I hope it helps some.

Slight misunderstanding there... Since all my posts are live oriented, I'm starting to take it for granted.. my apologies. And thank you for being one of the few people who reply to my pain in the ass posts anyway :)

I guess all I can do for now is readjust my work approach, short of having to buy 15 control surfaces - but still can't figure out what new modes and zones are supposed to help with. I was almost convinced I was missing something essential.

I am aware of the live capabilities of LIVE, so to speak, since many friends of mine use it. But thing is for years I've been completely in love with Logic's native plugins. So switching to Ableton can only be my last option really.

Crossing fingers for automap 2.0

once again, thanks for your help
