Setting up seperate Midi Tracks for Hardware?

I bought LP8, but noticed that when I choose a template to use, for some reason all my midi tracks will play the same synth. What I mean is, when I try to change the Midi channel from 1 to 2 or 3 (whatever), it will change ALL the midi tracks to that new channel. I want to set up the midi tracks to play on seperate midi channels ( or midi ports ). I'm using an Emagic AMT8 for my midi interface. In Logic 7, I went created tracks and made the actual cable conections (forget what that is called).

Is there something I'm missing to make each midi track play on a seperate midi channel/port?

Look into the External Instrument plugin. Its a bit better suited to working with MIDI tracks in 8 AND you can apply Logic Software Effects to the incoming audio stream. Very Cool!

The External Instrument plug-in won't help if the OP wants to use several MIDI Channels of the same external instrument simultaneously.

Stikygum, in L8, you select your external MIDI track and choose the instrument (or port) in the Library. Then the right column of the Library displays all the different MIDI channels for that instrument, and you can choose different ones for each external MIDI track.
