Recording and Editing Audio Files

Ok, I'm at a complete loss here. I hope someone can steer me in the right direction.

So . . . I laid a guitar track down in Logic and now I'm trying to use it as a repetitive, 4 bar part. Looping the part "as is" doesn't work so, I've edited the sample many different times in various audio editors and for the life of me can't sync the track to the drums. It's always either ahead or behind the beat. The part, in and of itself, prior to any edits, as recorded, is fine.

Using Sound Studio 3, everything is fine when looping and auditioning the sample within the SS3 app. However, once imported back into Logic, it all sux bigtime.

I've tried using the sample in the EXS24 and manually play the part again but that doesn't work either. Any advice or insight into this matter would be very appreciated. Thanks so much in advance guys. :)

Hi

When you are editing in L8 are you zooming in to make sure that the edit is EXACTLY at the beat. This has also happened to me where a loop I created would start to drift and every single time it was because I didn't cut at the right spot. Check that out first. Hopefully it's as simple as that. Also does it stay in tempo when you check it against your metronome? Could the drums be off?Probably not but just a thought.

Hope this helps

Have a good one. :D

Hello Chico,

Thanks for your reply. I have not zoomed in using the Logic editor but have done so using Sound Studio 3 and although it's not measured against a metronome in SS3 it does appear to be in sync with itself although I know that's not a definitive method. So, perhaps you may be right and I'll check that more carefully.

Yes, the drums are all tight on the said track so I know that's not the issue at least.

Thanks so much and I'll get back to you on the zoom thing.

Make sure that your loops/copies start on 1.1.1.1 or 4.1.1.1.

Defintely Zoom far enough in that you can be certain you are sitting right on the first bar.

Did you also make sure you arent looping an audio region that is not a full bar, and that your tempo matches your performance?

Turn on the metronome and give it a whirl.

best of luck.

Herein was the problem. I wasn't zooming enough to see what I was actually working with. I didn't realize until today that but stretching the actual track view in the arranger portion of the tune that I could see all the specific sound bytes. Turned out that the samples were ending before the bar(s) they were nested in, Furthermore, If I copied and pasted some samples in a repetitive fashion I was noticing that although placed (or so I thought) at 1 0 0 0 they were actually being placed where the prior samples ended i.e: 1 0 0 221 .

I've redone all the parts and edited them accordingly and, all is well now. Thanks for the tips and advice guys. I'm very grateful. Today was a great learning adventure.
