stikygum
I'm not sure what or why this happened, but I can't use my midi interface anymore (AMT8) I get this message: "Instrument "MIDI" sends to a MIDI port named "MIDI Port" of MIDI Interface AMT8 which no longer exists" Everytime I start up Logic 8, it says this and I can't play any of my hardware synths through midi. I use to be able to use the AMT8 fine with my hard synths, but can't now. I don't know what happened. It powers up fine, all cables are plugged in. I downloaded the driver again to see if something got messed up, but I still get this message. Anyone know what to do to get the AMT8 talking with Logic again? David Nahmani
When you click the "Port" parameter of a multi-instrument, what choices do you see?

Its as if my MIDI interface simply disappears. This would usually happen to me after a crash and a reboot. When this happens, you'll usually notice that if you open up your AudioMIDI application the MIDI interface is translucent instead of solid, meaning that the AudioMIDI app can't find it. I have a MOTU MIDI Express 128 and the fix for me was unplugging my MIDI interface and plugging it back in. Doesn't happen too often, but it does happen from time to time. stikygum
Turned off and on my AMT8, and still doesn't work. For the midi tracks, I have a shaded translucent 'Port 6 (Unitor8/AMT8)', but that is the only Port I have in there. I also have a Novation SL and it shows up when I connect it via USB. I have no idea why it references Port 6 only. I just noticed under the Audio tracks, the 'Core Audio: Audio 1-8' is all shaded translucent. Underneath that, it has a Midi channel: 1-8 for each of my Audio tracks. I'm using my AMT 8. Eric, my Audiomidi setup for the AMT 8 is translucent like you said. There is also a translucent 'IAC Driver' in there along with a colored 'Network' picture. I have no idea what is going on. Could this all be from not properly shuting Logic down? Eric J
If your AMT plugs in via USB, try plugging in the AMT to the computer while the Mac is turned on, but not with Logic running. Thats how I always fix it.
stikygum
Actually that's what I did, but it still gives me the same error. I wonder why the AMT8 in the AudioMidi is translucent when it's plugged in. There must be some setting in Logic rejecting it. It doesn't make sense. I wonder if I should try to reload Logic 8 again. I wonder if I should try to reload Logic 8 again. it is translucent in the AudioMIDI app because AudioMIDI sees that it is installed but cannot confirm it's connectivity for some reason. This is a problem with AudioMIDI, not Logic, so I'm pretty sure reinstalling Logic won't help. Try reinstalling the AMT drivers or checking your Apple Logs and seeing if there is a problem on boot up. Also try plugging the USB cable into a different USB port. David Nahmani
Try opening your environment and finding the MIDI Inst layer, select the multi-instrument and look at its parameters in the Inspector on the left: click the Port parameter and tell me what you're seeing. So: 1) Window > Environment 2) At the top left, click on the down arrow button to the right of the menu and choose MIDI Instr. 3) Click the object with 16 numbered boxes on the right, and 4) Click-hold the value in front of the "Port" parameter. nagal
Another thing to try is make sure Logic is not running, unplug the AMT, delete it from AudoMIDI Setup, plug the AMT back in and reinstall the drivers. I have had on occasion my MCU Pro disappear and this has always fixed it for me.
stikygum
So I just checked (didn't have time last night) and when I do as you described, I get: OFF, ALL, and Port 6. Port 6 is translucent though and I can not select it. OFF and ALL are the only ones I can select. I'm going to try deleting the AMT8 in my Audio Midi and loading the drivers again. I can't think of anything else I can try. Try opening your environment and finding the MIDI Inst layer, select the multi-instrument and look at its parameters in the Inspector on the left: click the Port parameter and tell me what you're seeing. stikygum
I just deleted the AMT8 in AudioMidi and for some reason I had a MicroX (Korg) pop up underneath it or something (I didn't even see it on there before I deleted the AMT8). I forgot I had loaded up the software editor that came with the Korg MicroX synth. But deleting the AMT8 and reloading the drivers didn't work. I don't even see the AMT8 in AudioMidi. I wonder if I should delete the MicroX in AudioMidi. But I'd still want to be able to use both of them at the same time if possible.
David Nahmani
OK then your AMT8 is definitely not seen by the computer. Not sure what could cause that. You tried another USB port? It's directly into the computer, not through a hub, keyboard or display's USB port?
stikygum
Yeah, I tried both USB ports on my Macbook. I went straight from the AMT8 into my Macbook. There must've been something with the Korg driver that messed up the AMT8. I'm wondering if the Korg MicroX driver has certain settings that somehow butted heads with the AMT8.... This is weird, I should probably delete the MicroX editor and drivers, you think?
David Nahmani
You could try that. Before that, I would try to do the following: In Audio MIDI Setup, click the Configuration menu. If you never used it, and it's empty, choose New Configuration, and name it. Does the Korg disappear? If it does, restart the computer and try it. Otherwise let me know what happens and when in that chain of command?
stikygum
I've never used the new configuration, but tried what you said and there is no Korg that appears. The only things there are IAC Driver (has a bunch of music notes flying around in the picture for this driver) and Network. Actually, now that I think about it.... I'm not sure if I had that IAC driver in there before. I wonder if that is from the Korg driver (and possibly what's screwing things up.
David Nahmani
No IAC is Inter Application Connection, that's an OS X driver, you can keep it or delete it, if you don't use it it's not going to make any difference. Same thing with the Network object. Now stay in this configuration, quit AMS, quit Logic, shut down your computer, unplug the AMT, start the computer back up after about 20 seconds, open AMS, and plug the AMT. Does the AMS recognize it?
stikygum
Still nothing. The AMT8 won't show up in AMS. I wonder if my USB cable went bad or something happened to the USB of the AMT8.
stikygum
I was just looking around in AudioMidi and noticed for the IAC driver and probably other USB devices, there is a active checkbox. I'm wondering if the AMT8 active box became unchecked when I installed the Korg software. Problem is, I deleted that translucent AMT8. Any idea how to get the AMT8 back to show up in the AudioMidi again? I was thinking that just checking the active box might turn it on.

There's no point trying to create one manually if the computer doesn't see the device.
stikygum
Hhh, interestingly I deleted the Korg MicroX editor and now in Logic's dropdown Port menu, Port #6 is gone, so there is only OFF and ALL. Still doesn't work. I plugged in some keyboards into the AMT8 and it receives those midi messages for the 'In' ports and sends them to the 'Out' ports. I also tried to delete the Emagic plugins/drivers on my Macbook - and I downloaded new ones (but they don't work). Before I deleted the MicroX editor, the USB light didn't light up, only the RS lights for PC and Mac lite up. But now I see the USB light lights up, which is interesting. Yet still nothing works. Is there any other backup files or anything else I should delete, that could be causing this complication?
tuf
Is there any other backup files or anything else I should delete, that could be causing this complication? You may want to consider the possibility that your AMT8 bought the farm. Can you plug it into another Mac (or maybe your existing Mac booted into Windows via Boot Camp, etc) to do a quick sanity test to make sure its still working? stikygum
Unfortunately I only have one Macbook (no other Mac). I was wondering if by chance my free Mac software Updates we get from Apple, had something to do with it. I'm now on OS 10.4.11, but when I had 10.4.10 everything was fine. Of course I did load the Korg editor and some other programs like Real Player and DivX Player since then also. Could it be the newer OS or Real/DivX Players? I've got two of those and have never had an issue with either, and I'm running 10.5.2. When its plugged in and on, do you see it in the USB section of your System Profiler? Hit the Apple logo at the top left, click "About This Mac" and hit "More Info".. then click on USB in the left side pane. If you dont see it try unplugging it while the profiler is running and hit command-R (Apple-R) to refresh. Then plug it back in and repeat. If youre not seeing some sort of new device show up, the AMT is probably not responding on its USB port. At that point you should try hardware resets, etc. Tuf
