George Lenton
hey, does anyone know how to turn up one side of an audio file, ??? i have a backing track, i only want to increase the volum of the right channel, i tryed seperating the file in the sample editor by saving it as seperate sides, but when i did that i still seemed to have the same issue when i put a direction mixer on it it pans the whole thing to that side, is there a way to just mute one side opposed to panning it?? cheers! Homina
You're gonna have to extract the mono side you want from the stereo file and use it instead. Quick-and-dirty way: pan 100% to the side you want and export the track, then import the result. Cleaner: use any audio app that permits stereo separation into mono tracks (e.g., Amadeus), and then import the one you want. If I understand you correctly and panning doesn't permit what you need, then I don't see an easier way.
David Nahmani
Click-hold the format button (below the meter) and choose "Left" or "Right" to only play the selected channel (on a mono channel strip).

George Lenton
cheers, yeh, when panned it simply sends the whole signal to the side chosen, opposed to just playing the selected side that seems like a really great tip!!! cheers david, im not at my comp right now, is that the bit which looks like a circle when its mono and a figure of 8 when its stereo, ? does this work on logic 7? cheers though, i hope this proves of some use to others!! shivermetimbers
I am not at my computer either... It works great in LP7. Another tip to try, If you wanted to boost up one channel and still hear the other you could send the stereo track on 2 busses (pre) and pan hard left and hard right. George Lenton
ahhh, cool man. ill have to try that trick out! davids trick saved my ass earlier!!! i was recording a radio show with a band, and for som stupid reason i had to edit the backing track there and then, and this enabled me to do it easily, so cheers again. one slight question about that last tip involving the busses though, how come the panning isnt the same amount on each one, ? would this tip work as well with direction meters instead? cheers!! shivermetimbers
I quickly set them left and right. The left pan would read 64 if turned completely, and the right would be 63. There are more ways to do this, but David's way is the fastest and most practical. The Direction Mixer should work at the +/- 90º but is a bit overkill in comparison. Watch your Basis setting. George Lenton
cheers man, i hope i didnt seem like a picky git!! ha ha, i think on my computor the pans do ( for some inexplicable reason) turn with 1 db of difference. ( ive just noticed that you explained that, i dont know why there is a db of difference from left to right, seems v odd?) thankyou though,
