twinstates
HI Guys, Hopefully someone here can shed a light on this. I am trying to replicate a filter sweepon a part done on a PC in Logic. FOr various reasons I can't just use the PC version. So I must do it in Logic. Said filter sweep goes from 268 hz to 1363 drops to 669.3 and up to 2779 over a few bars. here's the kicker. how do I input those values into Logic. is tehre really no text input for parameters? The resolutiuon for the automation isletting me have either 177HZ or 334 or similar. Both of which are going to be noticably different. I am hoping that I am just being dumb here but slightly worried that i am not. Part of the problem is that the filter unit I am using (soundtoys filter freak) doesn't account for the fact that the first 100-1000Hz shoudl be where you have greater magnification than the 1000-20Khz region (non logarhythmic?) Anyway I hope someone can help me with this as it's driving me a bit mad. . . Thanks TS

fader8
Part of the problem is that the filter unit I am using (soundtoys filter freak) doesn't account for the fact that the first 100-1000Hz shoudl be where you have greater magnification than the 1000-20Khz region This is entirely dependent on how the plug-in was coded, as you've noticed actually. I just tried the same thing with Waldorf D-Pole. I get steps like this: 211Hz 238Hz 267Hz 298Hz 330Hz With Sonalksis TBK, I get: 209Hz 224Hz 240Hz 257Hz 276Hz 295Hz 316Hz 339Hz Your supposition that filters should have greater automation resolution in the lower frequencies is correct. Now you just have to convince the people at SoundToys! Good luck!
twinstates
Their tech support people just ignored my request / suggestion! Which doesn't bode well for hoping that it will be revised. it actually makes their plugs unusable in Logic sadly. Is there a numerical parameter entry a la Acid or somesutch? I.e. you can select a node then edit it's value? I know you can pull up the eidt window but i couln't work out how to edit each node (perhaps ma being thick here but the automation section in the manual didn't seem to have this laid out. . .) In the Automation Event List (assign a key command to open it) just drag the Val field for that event and it will change that node. Or, double-click it and enter the value. grimepoch
I don't know if this helps at all, but I had seen someone using like the control key to get finer resolution on automation values. That might not be the exact correct key, but might be something to look at. As far as I know from my programming experience with AU plugins, the parameter settings are mostly float values, unlike MIDI values which are constrained to fixed number of settings, so unless they modeled discrete steps like some EQ's have, it will be totally dependent on the value from the host. While still the knob to EQ setting can be log related as you notice, I have a feeling that you are stepping through Logic's discrete values. Let me know if the fine control works. twinstates
Thanks for the help guys. Grimepotch will try your suggestion when I get home. have already tried that but was late last night and could haver been doing it wrong. Fader 8, could youplease explani what you mean in another way? I hcan pull up the event list but then I am not sure which events shown on the list correspond to the nodes on the screen. Am I doing something wrong, am using whatever key command i should to pull up automation event list. . . Thanks TS

OK, holding option while dragging the numerical display in the track header allows you to write higher resolution to the track. But only if the plug supports it. Things have changed since LP7 so I haven't got it all sussed yet. The event list no longer shows the "extended" data. I'm not sure the Auto Event List is the best way now for editing that data. Can you set the plug-ins control to the frequency you want?
