Digital Stimulants
I currently use WAVES plug-ins and love them. My concern is that after I have applied all my techniques (a.k.a. -plug-ins), I'm not getting that sweet sound I want? I record in logic w/ a 24bit 48kHz setting and use an Apogee Ensemble as my interface. Techniques: I feel I use my plug-ins the way they were intended to be used and I love the sound I'm generating, but it's not that in your face perfection that you hear on lets say... TOOL's 10,000 Days album? Any suggestions?
dkgross
Chekc out the DUY plug ins. But don't over use them.
fader8
but it's not that in your face perfection that you hear on lets say... TOOL's 10,000 Days album? Any suggestions? That may be a little tough! Track all the drums at one studio with an API board, then everything else at another studio with a Neve board, hire Joe Barresi to record and mix, then have Bob Ludwig master it. That's a tough bill to fill with plug-ins! But yeah, the DUY stuff sounds great.
Digital Stimulants
I know, I'm not asking for much. Which of DUY's plugins do you recommend?
marcel72
it's not that in your face perfection that you hear on lets say... TOOL's 10,000 Days album? Any suggestions? Hire Joe Baressi? Seriously, check out who this guy is and what he has done. You could have the same band and the same equipment as him, and not produce anywhere near the same results. Not to discourage you, but I think what sets records like this apart is the skill of those who made them, performers and engineers.

I agree, I feel that that record is one of the best, if not, the best record ever produced.

If you really like what he does, do some research into his methods and style. I bet you can find a whole bunch of stuff that you may be able to use. That's probably the best way to get going in the direction you want to go. Check out Andy Wallace, too.

There are times when he elevates dynamics processing to an artform. Great reference material.
