Phrase
Hi Chris ... thanks for the "Chapter and Verse on Audio Hard Drives". I'm a novice on HD recording. My question revolves around basic file creation and management to implement your method #1) ..." There are two ways to employ the new “fast” volume you have created for audio files:...(1). Use it as the default location to save a new Logic Project, and set the audio record path to the “Audio Files” folder inside the Logic Project folder ".... I've partitioned my 1000G ext.HD ... AudioWork(100G) ... ProjectArchives(800G) ...both only MacOS Extended ... & [100G eDrive] . ... On my MacBookPro/LP8 ... save as.. I have to create folders on the respective partitions ... If I understand correctly I will create a Logic>Project ... file on the Archive partition and the fast smaller partition will contain the Logic>Audio file which I will transfer to the archive project file at the end of the recording session. ...Chris I'm sure I missing the creation of some needed folders in each of the partitions. ... Time permitting would you comment on this. ... p.359 of manual to specific folders ...? thanks ... phrase
Phrase
Chris... just an addendum ... I just dragged a project folder back to the LP8 Archive partition and saw project name ie... GTR3>Audio Files & GTR3 LP8 project icon & Project File Backups ... these were created automatically whenLP8 saved to ext, HD depending on extent of save assets etc. ... More specific question ... on the fast partition do I create a project folder>audio folder only ... with another project folder (same Name) on the Archive partition with the other folders such as Project File Backup & Fade Files ... etc. I should just experiment and eventually I'll find out ... anyways thanks ... any help is appreciated ... phrase... I just got an expresscard to maintain FW800's integrity thanks to a suggestion from el-bo . ... little by little ... edit ... add ... the Settings>Project settings>Recording>Core Audio>Set> .../Volume/AudioWork/Audio-1Song (fast partition) ... for Archive partition the Save As>1Song ... where>LP8 Archive but with the Copy external audio files to project file * unchecked * because the audio recording is being stored separately ... maybe this will work ... thanks ...phrase
pantomimeHorse
Hi Chris ... thanks for the "Chapter and Verse on Audio Hard Drives".................Time permitting would you comment on this. ... - With pleasure, phrase ! - But remember I'm on LogicPro7 so some things may need tailoring to your needs. You'll just have to explore to find out what works. - 100GB out of the 1TB drive is MORE than you need for the Audio Volume ! If you have a chance to start over, make it around 20-25GB. (My original article assumed people are using 160-250 GB drives, as were current then !). It's impossible to keep abreast of drive sizes. Having said that, the lower capacity drives are, in the main, more reliable and will give you longer service before they fail. - Create your new Logic Project folder on the Audio Work volume. Work away until you finish your project. When you've done the final bounce, move the WHOLE project folder to the archive volume. Start another project ........ etc etc - C
Phrase
Chris ... thanks ... I learnt a lot just trying to configure within the parameters of reality and the imagined! ... My ext. HD's size is more suited for video work. Disk utility wouldn't allow anything smaller with just three partitions on 1000Gs. ... I could experiment with more partitions to get to the size you recommend. ... But maybe I should save the life-span of that ext.HD and get a fast smaller HD just for Audio and Logic 8 . ... any recommendations ...? ... thanks very much ... phrase ...
