LFE06
I'm running `logic Pro 8 on Tiger and `i'm trying tp use a DM 2000 as a controller (remote page ). I have followed the instructions in the control surface manual but only get 1 console in the control surface page. Does anyone have any ideas? should I update firmware / drivers? Thanks for any input you can give.
YamahaDM2000
what do you mean by ONE CONSOLE? you're using more than one DM2000?
YamahaDM2000
also make sure you ALWAYS have the latest firmware and drivers. Console firmware and USB driver versions have to always coincide. also make sure you select MAC in the utility section of the DM2000. and you're midiports have to be in sync. coz you can have Studio Manager running on let's say USB Midi 1-1 then you can have the data for controlling Logic Pro on USB Midi 2-2. it's all in the UTILITY section of the DM2000. if i'm not mistaken i think you can run 8 different midi ins and outs, There's the Studio Manager, The DAW Control, and the General Midi. YamahaDM2000
i'm just curious... are you using the DM2000 JUST as a control surface? or are you using the pre amps for your inputs and having the console be your audio interface as well? coz if your using it JUST for a control surface....man...that's one expensive control surface! hehehehe
LFE06
Thanks for the replies - here are some clarifications: One console: The LP8 control surface manual (page 237) steps through the DM2000-LP8 set up. At the end it says : "You should see three DM2000 (USB 1–3) icons in the Setup window, aligned horizontally." ....I only see One (console) Icon. I'm going to check the DM2000 Firmware version later today. Using the DM 2000 JUST as a control surface? Nope! We use the analog inputs and most of the digital inputs too. We're a little 5.1 post studio inside a Film school in the South of France. I think you've put me on the right track - I will post useful findings. tuf
Thanks for the replies - here are some clarifications: One console: The LP8 control surface manual (page 237) steps through the DM2000-LP8 set up. Logic 7 used to automatically recognize it, while Logic 8 does not. You can go into your controller setups and add the 2 missing DM2000 faders manually. Look for something like "DM2000 Faders Only" and add 2 of those. Make sure to configure the proper midi channel for each. Logic 8 seems very hokey with my 01v96...aside from the setup problem, it will sometimes not remember my controller settings, and the faders dont always sync up properly until I hit a vitrual fader in Logics mixer. Lots of general weirdness.

amxguy
I have been pulling my hair out trying to get my DM2000 working with the new Logic Studio. Here is what I have gathered so far... Logic will not scan Yamaha boards (from Apple Tech, known issue) For now you need to add it yourself (Add one DM2000 on port 1, and two DM2000 Channel Strips Only as port 2 and 3) Even when you do this each bank of 8 faders will have the same labels. Go into Preferences>MIDI and do a full reset of the MIDI. This will make the labels on the scribble strips correct. Then the fun starts. I have to believe that no one at Apple took the time to update the new version of Logic Pro for this controller. The track arming doesn't do anything, the transport doesn't work, etc. Whatever you do don't press the User Defined Button #9. This will start a window swapping loop that will eventually try to close Logic all together. Some things work. Some don't. Some really don't. I love the board, I really like Logic Pro (I am a ProTools defector). I thought I had the perfect scenario with the DM2000 and Logic. If there are any of you reading this that have a way to make it work, please tell me. If there are any of you that this is not working for, please tell Apple. The worst part was that Apple told me the DM2000 is discontinued so there won't be anyone at Yamaha to help me. First off, it is not discontinued (per a Yamaha post in another form). Secondly, how in the world would this be Yamaha's fault? The are sending information out of a USB-MIDI port. Logic is not doing what it should in the new version. Plain and simple in my opinion. I would love to hear if everything worked correctly on this board with Logic 7. Anyone have any information? I am using USB 1.1.1 driver and the newest Studio Manager for Leopard. Studio Manager works fine, so the computer is communicating with the board just fine. I am so frustrated. I just want this to work. I don't know if any of you remember, but when the Logic Studio bundle was first shipping there was an 'Artist Spotlight' on the website that had a guy running Logic Studio and a DM2000. Now he isn't on the site anymore...hmmmmm. Anyhow I am done ranting. Let's see what happens.
