maninthedark30
It's gotta be the problem here. Ever since the newest update to iTunes 7.6.1, I am having trouble switching between my system sound and my interface when need be. The problem is mostly within iTunes itself, but basically goes like this. Say I boot my computer, and pull up iTunes. Songs play fine through my interface which leads to my monitors. Then I pause a song, go to system prefs and change to the internal speakers on my iMac. No problem, iTunes still plays. Then, however, if I try to switch it back to my interface (mackie onyx) I get serious beacballing and iTunes stops responding. I click on a track, it shows it is playing in the transport (meaning the pause button is displayed) but the counter and time bar do not move, and then iTunes crashes. I have to reboot to fix it. Force quitting and reselecting options in many different combinations doesn't help. Anyone else here having issues like this? I have repaired permissions, and nothing changed. It's really irritating because a friend of mine started having the same issue with his mac pro a few weeks ago when he first did the iTunes update, and now his mac won't even recognize his MOTU 828! The only reason I did the update (I normally hold out forever on itunes updates, pc or mac), is because I have a season pass for a TV show and when one of the new episodes became available last week I got a download error saying I HAD to install the new iTunes in order to download the desired content. WHAT A BUNCH OF B S. Thanks Apple. I downloaded and installed it and it F'd some stuff up, so now would you mind loosening your cold grip on my nethers? m-m-m
yeah, itunes seems to be screwy lately. I've had problems importing mp3s from discs. Had problems with album artwork when stuff gets put onto an ipod touch (could be the ipod software though ... not sure). I'm done getting stuff from the itunes store ... as far as music goes, I'd rather get it cheaper from amazon sans all the pesky DRM garbage. maninthedark30
Yeah I don't usually buy stuff from the store. Maybe like 4-5 albums in 3 years. I definitely still prefer actual CD's for music (or SACD's and DVD-A's if I can find them!). My weakness is Frisky Dingo! I think the show is hilarious and bought season 1 on iTunes when it came out over a year ago, and purchased the season 2 pass in the fall. They are just now getting around to releasing season 1 on DVD later this month and probably won't release season 2 until next year. Not only do I not have cable, but the show airs at like midnight on Sundays, so I get to download the episodes at like 3am Monday mornings. It's the craziest show ever, but it makes me laugh
Subtonic
+1 For Frisky Dingo. I'd rather get stuff from iTunes since they provide digital booklets, but I don't really like having my email address in my music either. I really wonder if the fidelity is even relevant - for a long time Tunecore, the indie musician way to get on digital music services, told users to upload music at 320kbps, which of course gets transcoded into whatever format the music service uses. I think they stopped that now since iTunes Plus arrived - but it still makes me wonder how much of the stuff isn't actually encoded from the original files or CD.
