desk envy

Great for a little computer station, maybe even an editing/post-production workstation. But as my main desk? Way too small. I need a lot of space for all my keys, phones, playing cards, papers, wallet, pens, CDs, flashlight...!!!

BTW, it's kinda ... overpriced? I mean I wouldn't spend that much on a tiny desk.

You're having a case of FAS. Take a deep breath, and repeat after me:

"It's too expensive"

"It's too expensive"

"I'm kidding myself if I think I won't end up covering every available square inch of space with chachkees"

"I'm kidding myself if I think I won't end up covering every available square inch of space with chachkees"

"It has no drawers"

"It has no drawers"

DK? Just say "no".

 seriously

hahah :) All of you are right.

I just had a weak moment of 'oooooh...shiney....ooooh'.

:) then again..now that the Guitar Bug has bit me...I want to learn to play bass as well..

I'm doomed. 8)

Get the bass :D I picked up a nice Ibanez SR300FM bass about 6 months ago. I just love playing it and it was not expensive at all ($350 from Musicians Friend). Of course now I want to swap out the electronic for a better tone.

Wayyy too tiny...lol...

For a great desk, draw up plans yourself. Seriously.

When I first got home from the hospital after my accident (paraplegic, in wheelchair), I found the store desk I had was not sized properly. I took measurements, and started searching. As I was doing that, I talked to lots of people, and finally someone asked why I did not simply call a local cabinet maker?

I lucked out. The first one I called was unresponsive, but the second one had actually done custom desk work for offices at Disney World. I used graph paper, and did some real head scratching, considering everything I wanted in a personal work area. Here is what I got!

Custom built, and excellent craftsmanship. I put the white tiger fur on it, not them- lol! They did a black matte laminate. The entire thing- main desk area, desk racks, and curve around area- all ran slightly over $1k. The main desk used rails for the 88-note keys to be tucked in when not used (I have a Kurz K2500XS, about 85lbs or so I think). File drawers and stuff below- really, really well done.

Seriously- before spending more than $800 on any desk, consider calling around to some cabinet makers, and check out there work and prices first.

Everyone needs This Desk! [ADMIN: Link expired]

@ Joel: you have great taste! (DK, are you watching and learning? LOL!)

@DK: for me it was a clarinet bug that bit me. I now have a regular (soprano) and a bass clarinet. Hoping to find a deal on a contrabass clarinet one of these days :)

@nikki: nice crib! At first I thought I was looking at pix of a music store. Wow.
