untitled1100
Hi, I'm not sure if it's the lead or the mic but occasionally when I'm recording vocals (with an SE electronics 2200a) i hear a slight pop then the sound just cuts out for a second or two. I don't yet use a pop shield but one is on the way, but I don't think it's got to do with that as I it is not exactly the same kind of 'pop' and 'click' that's happening. I was just wondering if someone has experienced this before.. Cheers, Jamie
Phil.c
Hi Jamie, Vocal 'Pops' usually come with words starting with 'P' etc. where a rush of air hits the mic, but the sound does'nt cut out after it, are you sure you've no gates or compressors turned on? untitled1100
hmm i don't think it's caused by those kind of vocal pops (and so from when singing words starting with p, b...) because it even does it with other sounds too..! (like 'ah', 'oh'..) There were no gates or compressors loaded as plugins in this track. Although there is a limiter on the usb interface but the problem occurs even with that switched off...! Thanks for helping!
delboh
You are overloading the mic. Many large diaphragm condenser mics behave like this when overloaded particularly with vocal "pops". A pop shield will help with the plosives. Don't put the mic directly in front of the singers mouth. Try putting it about the bridge of the nose 9 to 12 inches away pointing downwards to their mouth and give yourself LOTS of headroom when recording vocals.
