seanh
Hi all, I switched to Logic Pro 7 academic from Protools last year. I do love Logic's features more and it's way more forgiving with my meek 1.6 gigahertz processing power. The learning curve sometimes leaves me staring at the screen and fumbling though the menus. I'm just not used to some of the concepts such as an environment window. I so badly want to cruise through a Logic Pro project with the same ease and effort I used to in Pro Tools. What's really been driving me crazy is trying to snap regions to a bar. Example. I create a new audio track and it goes a hair past 2 bars. The snap options say "Bar" but when I drag the end of the region it's snapping like 30 ticks after the 2 bar mark. It just wont snap at 2 bars even. I can't get things done like this. If I change the grid options to something like ticks, I can get it close but not exact. What is happening here? Operator error or Logic Bug? Can I numerically type in the bar start and end points? I seem to recall trying to figure this out and giving up.
rakhjones
Wow, a question I can answer. If you select Bar in the grid window it will give you a few more options; but ticks and frames are even finer diminutions. My usual solution? I cut the region, use the the > and < keys to snap the playhead in the appropriate position, and then I paste. Simple.

Cut and pasting is just way too much work after each record take. Funny I play with garage band in my spare time at work and the snapping works perfectly!! prjkt
the grid snap option in l7 was the biggest headache i had when coming from logic 5, could only manage to get things in the right place by really zooming in and moving them…
1pauper1
hey sean unfortunately logic doesn't work like your other daw's when it comes to moving regions around in the arrange window.snap to grid doesn't snap to the nearest 1.1.1.1 position . it moves it by those increments. so if you have a region at position 1.1.1.26 and set your snap to bars it will snap to a 1 bar movement ie; 2.1.1.26, 3.1.1.26. the way around this is to hilite the region in the arrange window then open up the list view on the right hand side the screen under the positions tab you can adjust it to exactly where you want it
Fred B
In the snap menu try checking the option 'snap to absolute value'. I think it corresponds to GarageBand behaviour.
