Can anyone explain output routing in Kontakt 2?

I am really confused.

When I get drum libraries loaded into KONTAKT 2 in L8, I load a MULTI instance of Kontakt 2, say stereo plus some mono channels, and then get stuck when trying to figure out how to assign each drum sound out the right output. I make AUX tracks with the plus sign in the Logic mixer, and they assign themselves to Kontakt 1-2,3-4, etc.

But in Kontakt itself, it just gives me STEREO 1-2, STEREO 3-4, and then SURROUND. I'm really confused here.

Thanks for any help.

Output is determined per group. Open the instrument to edit, open the group editor and select the group you want to route. In the Amplifier section, select the output pair. If it's a mono aux you want to send to, open the channel routing grid and click the channel you don't want to delete the connection.

If you don't have enough output channels available in Kontakts Outputs section, just create more and assign them to the plug-ins physical outputs.

I managed to figure it out. There are two places that say output...and I was using the wrong one. All I had to do is use the one on the main instrument panel next to the midi channel assignment.

BUT....How can you assure that everytime you open Kontakt you will have the multi output setup you created active for anything that you load?

Thanks

Tom

The output setting in the main instrument panel is the defaullt output for the whole instrument. If that's all you want to use, and you always want it to be the same, then saving that instruent should retain that setting next time you open it.

But since it's a drum library, you may want to use the group outputs instead. Really depends on how the library has been programmed though. Is it set up with all snares on one instrument, all kicks on another, etc?

Tom,

Saving the instrument will retain that instruments output settings, yes.

As with anything, with flexibility comes complexity. Kontakt is better than some in this regard though. I'd recommend you spend some time with the manual though as there's not a lot of functions that are necessarily intuitive.
