Duet/Rosetta Clipping

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a Line 6 X3 Live (http://line6.com/podx3live/) that I run my guitar through before plugging the 1/4" into the Duet to record in logic. The problem is that when I plug my headphones directly into the Line 3 and monitor directly, it sounds perfect... absolutely no clipping even at ear blistering levels. However when I plug into the duet to record this sound, even after fiddling with ALL volume/input levels, I can only play so loudly before the input meter hits red, clips, and causes distortion. What is causing it to do this?

When I am actively monitoring through logic, I want to record that EXACT same sound/level as I get when I plug the headphones directly into the processing board itself.

Thank you for your time.

The 1/4" inputs on the Duet, are they for instrument input, or line level? And can you select instrument or line level on the modeller outputs, like you could with the old PODs? These two levels are vastly different from one another, so that could be your problem. Make sure they match, and if in doubt, set the Duet to accept line level and see what happens.

What does this have to do with the Rosetta? That should have line level balanced inputs, you should not be clipping those. Different animal than the Duet in this respect.

Thanks for the reply. :)

I put Rosetta only because I know the Duet and Rosetta use the exact same preamps, and the rosetta is more popular on this forum, therefore if people knew how to fix it on the rosetta, it could extend to the Duet.

The Duet offers XLR line +4dBu and -10dBu. It also says the instrument inputs are suitable for -10dBV line levels.

Should I get a 1/4" to XLR adaptor?

I think you're thinking of the Ensemble. The Rosettas have no pres, they are converters only.

You would probably be best to use some XLR cables to connect that thing to the Duet's XLR inputs. You need to make a setting in the Duet so that its inputs are line level and not mic level, and start with the +4 setting. That should give you the most headroom possible.
