Convert ReCycle Files / Folder to Apple Loops - 16 bit ?

I have a pro sample CD with a ton of REX folders. I would like to convert all of these REX files to Apple Loops since the Loop Browser will not let you add REX files. But at the same time any time I try to use this feature it takes the files down from 24 bit to 16 bit. This is a bit frustrating as I work in 24 bit. Is there a setting somewhere where I can change this? Or even better is there some secret way to tag REX files and filter/audition then using the Loops Tab?

If not is there another program out there that can batch convert them all without dithering down to 16 bit?

I would guess that AudioFinder would do this, but it is one sample CD and would not want to spend $70 just to convert on disk.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi..You can use the search in the media section if you have them already on your HD..Then open the folder and audition them (double click the rex file) at the tempo that LP8 is set at..Then drag them to an audio track and select for it not to be fixed or crossfaded..I don't know if it will retain the 24 bit reso..But it should..No need to convert them to apple loops..You would just have another needless file taking up space on your HD.. OOPS..Also if you double click on the audio file that is created you will see the slices appear.

You can also import them into the ESX24..If the rex file has a midi file it will lay it out on the EXS24 track..Keep in mind however all REX files are not created the same..It is up to the person who originally made the REX file to imbed the info they selected..

I understand that I can audition them with the Browser Tab, I would just like to be able to tag and filter them like Apple Loops, so as to pull up exactly what I am looking for in a jiffy. I really like the Loops Tab in LP8, I just wish you could organize all of your loops with it. If I could batch convert all 6000 REX loops to Apple Loops and organize them using tags I would be super happy, so long as they did not loose their 24 bit sound quality.

You have much, much more control if you inport them into the EXS24..You can tune individual slices as well as revers individual slices,,etc..

Apple loops are for the most part useless IMO..As oppsed to REX files..Wish I could be of help, but I don't see anyway, at least that I work with REX files. That would be of help..

Perhaps if you spend the time to create folders for them then it would be easier to find them according to your criteria..6000 is a lot..And I will go way out on a limb here and say that over 80% you will either never hear or even use..That is just again my limited opinion..All the best. And I hope someone else can be of better help..JON

Though our uses may differ perhaps you can help me with another issue. As you suggested I opened up one of the REX folders using the Browser Tab. so that I can get a general idea of what it would sound like with my current arrangement I hit play in the arranger then clicked the audio button in the Browser, all I got was white noise. Can I only audition REX files if the Transport is fully stopped?

Hi..Yeah that stinks..Maybe some one knows a way around it..I just double click the file and it is in the arrange window, or drag it into the arrange..Bit log way around , but it isn't a native loop, so I guess there are things you just have to work with..

If you haven't opened any, yet, in the EXS24 you might be pleasantly surprised..JON
