Missing Space Designer Legacy Presets.

I'm just curious if there is a solution for this or if it's just missing or even forgotten.

When we install Logic Studio we get the option to choose how much we want to install. One of the checkboxes is Legacy. It contains older presets for Logics instruments and effects.

The thing is that it seems like they have forgotten the Space Designer Legacy Presets but they have included the Legacy IR's?

If you look under /Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/Legacy Spaces, you'll see all the old L7 IR's

But if you look in the presets folder: /Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/Space Designer, you'll see that the presets are missing?!

This seems very strange to me and I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Do you guys have exactly the same stuff or is there anybody out there who has managed to find the L7 SD-presets?

I've got the same as you. Funny that I never noticed this before. Anybody have a solution?

It is strange isn't it?

It seems like Apple forgot to include the Plug-In Settings for SD L7.

The only comfort I can give is that it's relatively easy to just load the Legacy IR into SD.

Anybody with a different take on this problem?

Hi guys,

that´s funny , i started a similar thread some days ago... http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=23412

but still no solution... :?

Cheers

Yeah... I saw your post but no one had answered it.

Well I didn't find the solution here so I went and extracted the SD presets from my L7.2 disk.

I didn't want to mess with Logics preinstalled content so I placed the folder under my user instead: ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/

Here is the zipped folder

Hi..Thanks ERic..I was going to suggest that, but you seem to be quite capable as well as knowledge-able,...So figured if you had L7 you would figure it out..I don't have LP7 installed and my discs are on loan so could be of no help...

Again thanks for doing and sharing..Much appreciated...JON

I ended up using pacifist to extract the presets... It's a wonderful tool. ;)

Ah yes, thank you very much. :D

Have a good one. :D

You're welcome.

I still don't understand why they didn't include them in L8?

Before doing anything to drastic, I highly, highly, highly recommend using something like Spotless to trash the current Spotlight index and let it rebuild. Also, if you had used something like Spotless to disable Spotlight on Digidesign's recommendation, you will need to re-enable it to access all shared assets between Logic 7 and Logic 8. Logic 8 uses the Spotlight index to access the assets it shares with Logic 7 so it won't find a lot of things with out Spotlight enabled and the index updated. I found this out for myself as loading most Space Designer presets aside from the ones I had saved as my own, would crash Logic 8 but not Logic 7. Also, if you are missing any samples in EXS instruments, make sure you have the latest Garageband installed, open Garageband and check for updates. Doing both of these things made everything available to me that appeared to be missing at first.

You're right Dubnick, this may work if you still have L7 installed.

But if you are starting fresh with L8 and tell the installer to make the Legacy instrument and Plug-In presets available it fails making a legacy folder for SD.

The strange thing is that it installs the IR's but not the preset folder that correspond to each IR.

This to me sounds like Apple either forgot about it or they just made a creative decision toexclude that folder. Any how it's a really awkward thing... I don't understand the logic of giving us the IR's but hiding the direct acces to them.

I just found this thread today 13 years later lol and I am fascinated.

Will I have to do these same steps to add the legacy space designer presets to Logic X?

Hey @Eric CardenasI just got a new (to me) iMac and I installed the legacy folder you gave us (thank you 😎) but Space Designer is behaving oddly. I have a few issues.

1. Do some of your legacy presets not open ever, no matter what you do?

2. How do I get Space Designer to look for the Legacy Folder I just installed? In other words, how do I get the legacy Folder to show up in Space Designer's preset menu just like the default patches?

Basically if i wanna use these old sounds, I have to manually point Space Designer EVERY TIME I browse a new patch. And still about 40-50% of them won't open. I have them stored in...

/Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/ ...and then LEGACY SPACES gets it's own folder next to all the default factory folders.

Even though this is where the default patches are, Space Designer doesn't see the Legacy Space folder. I have to open it from my "recent folders" drop down menu every time, which again, still only works about 50% of the time. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. 🤘

Hi @Totigerus,

It's very likely Eric won't respond as it's been a while since he last visited LPH.

With Space Designer you have plug-in settings (.pst) files on the one hand (what Eric shared in this thread), and Impulse Response (.SDIR) files on the other.

As it happens, plenty of those Legacy Space Designer plugin-in settings shared by Eric require impulse response files that you most likely don't have, and as a result Space Designer prompts you to locate the missing files.

I happen to have these Legacy SDIRs and can share them but only if @David Nahmani is OK with it (it's 211 MBs uncompressed).

As for installing these .pst and .SDIR files, I would recommend you don't place them in the same location as the current factory content, because even if Logic will find them just fine, it's better to keep non-standard content separate to avoid mixing things up and potentially losing files during an update. So a better location for these would be your user's Library folder. Specifically:

Plug-in Settings:

/Users/your-username/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-In Settings/Space Designer/

Impulse Responses:

/Users/your-username/Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/

The SDIRs can be put put in any location that's indexable by Spotlight, so the above path is just my suggestion (normally you won't have an Impulse Responses > Apple folder under your user's Library/Audio folder).

J.
