Im newish to logic, all i want to know is, how to make good drum loops, and add s#!+ over the top. samples from other forms of music etc.

Hip Hop is basicly where im trying to go.

Now, i have thousands of drum samples, and ive been using them in the arrangement window, creating loops that sound great.

but looping them restricts me from recording vocals, because its only going to record the length of the loop. correct? i want to loops the drums, but record and layer lots of over s#!+, whilts the drums are looping.

if possible.

if not, im willing to use ultrabeat, however, i dont know how to load my samples in ultrabeat. ... . . . . . .. . can some one help me.

..... :?: :!: :!:

Your post confuses the hell outta me. I'm gonna try and take it bit by bit and hopefully we can get somewhere.

Asking how to 'make good drum loops' is a bit like asking 'how do I paint a good picture'. There's technique and art involved and you should try to be a bit more specific. As far as adding s#!+ over the top, you create a new track and then record the s#!+ you want onto it.

samples from other forms of music etc.
If your asking how to add samples over the drums, you create a new track, and drag and drop the audio files onto the new track in the arrangement window.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'drum samples'. Based on what you typed after what I just quoted, I'm gonna assume that you mean 'drum loops'. A drum loop is an audio or midi region of varying lengths (4 bars, 8 bars, 12 bars .... ) that contains a drum pattern ... typically the whole kit. When I think of 'drum samples' (and I'm sure that most people would agree with me) I think of individual drum hits. These are typically very short. A single kick drum hit, or a single snare hit are good examples of a 'drum sample'. If your using 'drum samples' in the arrange window to make loops, then you would have to be dragging these individual drum hits into the arrange window, which would be a slow tedious way to do things (if this is indeed what you are doing to make your loops then say so and I could tell you easier ways to do it, but this is already a long response to your post).

I'm gonna guess that you turned on cycle mode so that you could get your drum loop to repeat. Turn off cycle mode. Now, hover your mouse over the upper right corner of your drum loop in the arrange window. You should see an icon that looks like a circular arrow with a vertical line to the left of if. Click hold and then drag to the right to get your drum loop to repeat.

I skipped over the rest of your post 'cuz I think that what I already typed should solve the issues that your havin'. I got 2 suggestions for you:

1. Get David Nahmani's book on Logic 8. The book rocks, and he runs this site .... it will get you up to speed in no time.

2. Check youtube for logic tutorials ... the ones from SFLogic ninja are very good.
