mikeman
right i had logic 7 and in ultrabeat i prefer to load up my own drum sounds because i have a lot of wav samples. in logic 7 i could go to load up a sample and it would let me preview it before i chose it, in logic 8 when i press 'play' there is no sound while previewing but then if i click ok (to load it into the ultrabeat), the sample will play over and over again and then i cant get it to stop. also sometimes it wont let me preview the sample and i ll load it into ultrabeat and it will jus be total distortion. can anyone help me with this?? bresnark
The EXACT same thing happens to me and it's REALLY annoying. I thought it was my fault. Maybe it's OUR fault - which makes me feel a little bit better. If it's LOGIC'S fault, I'll feel great!
boydman
Ultrabeat in Logic 7 worked great. Ultrabeat in Logic 8 is broken. I've switched to the EXS24 and my life is much better now.
mikeman
see i want to switch to exs but...can u individually mix down on that? like each individual instrument including volume levels? i also get confused with assigning the samples to each key! lol i thought logic 8 ultrabeat would be so much better and easier but its only ok if ur using the set drums in logic
boydman
mikeman - i feel you. the exs was horribly user un-friendly for me compared to ultrabeat. but i've since re-worked the way i program drums and couldn't be happier. my way is a bit tedious and inefficient, but it offers total control and flexibility. i simply load up an exs on separate tracks for every single drum sound. with ultrabeat, you can tweak individual sounds, but there is only one ultrabeat on one track. what if i wanted reverb on my hats but not on the kick drum? you could route the output of the hat to an aux track...but man, this becomes a big headache. i'd rather just have each drum sound on its own track, and then i can use eq and effects as i please for every sound - and it's all right there in the arrange window! so in comes the exs. i don't assign samples to each key. i create an exs software instrument, and load up a kick sample. then i go to the next track and load up another exs software instrument, and load a hat sample. etc. etc. etc. every exs instrument has only one sample. for drums, i usually un-check the 'pitch' checkbox so that the sample sounds like the sample, and doesn't change pitch according to which key is pressed on the midi keyboard. then i go about creating my drum loops in the piano roll editor. make sense? anti-banausic
The preview in Ultrabeat was broken by the 8.0.1 update. I am sure that when they get around to releasing 8.0.2 it will be fixed again (but something else will be broken due to the fix I am sure). Just to let you know that is is functioning fine in 8.0. And is the main reason that I haven't yet updated. Waiting cautiously for 8.0.2 Best, AB
