Quietshout
Hey there- I am a relatively new Logic user. I was wondering if anybody here in logic land had some eq and setting suggestions for me to get a good McCartney bass tone using the plug ins that come with logic express. To be more specific...either the early beatles or the "Band on the run" album tone is what I am looking for. thank you in advance for your assistance. -Jeremy ________________________
maninthedark30
Depends on the guitar, the amp, the player, pick or no pick, the color of your lava lamp, etc. Not too sure of any exact settings you could try, but I've had decent success getting a 60's Beatles/Brian Wilson'y bass sound by playing through a regular guitar amp and mic'ing that instead of a standard bass cabinet. If you are going direct only, then yes you could probably achieve something close with a bit of EQ and compression. Have you tried throwing on one of the songs you like in iTunes while plugged up to Logic to play along with it while you tweak some settings? Just a thought... Quietshout
Thank you for the tip! Yeah, I've actually had some reasonable success using a fender guitar amp and playing the bass through that...but I figured If I have the technology, I might as well use it. As far as proper EQ settings, that is a strange and uncharted land for me. But I am learning so...I was just thinking that maybe there were some settings folks have used in the past. Being that EQ is pretty crucial. Thanks again!
marcel72
the player Mostly. The whole world of how his bass was recorded/mixed/EQ'd/compressed is relatively moot if you're not him. I wasn't really the notes he played, or even where he played them. It was where he stopped playing them that makes it so cool...

It has a function that will mimic the EQ setting of a snatch of music. Typically you'd play a track that you like for about 60 seconds and iZotope will analyse it and make an attempt to recreate the original settings. In your case you'd need a 'clean' section of bass guitar for the system to listen too and analyse. It never works perfectly but the results are always interesting. You'd be surprised what a difference it can make- even by accident.
