freeze question

If your recorded parts are not causing CPU overload, you really don't need to freeze. If you have the need to freeze, it is explained in the manual.

The first thing to do is to make sure you have an 'end' marker set at the end of the recorded part.

After you click on the freeze button for the track you will freeze, hit PLAY and it will process the track, If you need to edit the track at some future time, you will click on the freeze button to unfreeze the track.

my reason for freezing is that i processed a vocal track

with melodyne and can't seem to figure out how logic

applies ,bounces, renders, freezes or whatever i must do to

apply such changes permanantly to the audiofile.

i highlighted the track and bounced it, but it bounced the whole song

what do i need to do make a new audiofile with automation and plugs

included on that track only.

if you say bounce the track with the solo button engaged, would

that be my problem. i may have just answered my own stupid question.

at any rate, shivermetimbers , do i have to actually play the track back

before it will actually start freezing. i should think this would be an

offline operation. or maybe my freeze is broke.

Hi

Yes when you hit the freeze button just press play and Logic will process the audio file. It creates a new file in a freeze folder created in your current project and references that file while your tracks are frozen. Once you press play you will see the process working.

Have a good one. :D

Yes, you may have answered your own question.

Freezing is pg 200, then you can look at the audio file section in chptr 24, specifically pg 538. Bouncing is in CHPTR 24 pg 601.

Freezing isn't going to do much for you except help out with the CPU. Yes, you need to hit play to make it freeze.

Sounds like you want the bounce or export function.

Sounds like he wants a freeze but hit the bounce button.....bounce buttons are on the individual tracks next to the mute and record etc button, but you have to turn them on in the view menu I think, otherwise you won't see them and you could be fishing around with the bounce trying to get what you want....which you could get with the bounce, but then you have to make a new track etc etc.....the freeze works fine, you're probably just bouncing....

the individual tracks do not have bounce buttons, i can only find this on

the out 1/2 track.

although i have logic 8, could be one of those changes, i'm not

familiar with lp7.

you're right 1pauper1.. I don't see bounce buttons on the individual tracks either w/LP8.. but to my knowledge if you want to bounce just one track: you solo that track and then on the bounce page (which will come up when you hit bounce on the 1-2 output strip) you set all the parameters for that bounce there.. including Start & End.

I have Melodyne Plugin and even though I haven't tried it I believe all the effects of Melodyne will be rendered on the new bounced audio file which you should be able to insert into your project as is.. just keep in mind that you won't have the previous plugs to tweak.

thanx trebor99,

so once i bounce a track i would basically

remove all the plugins i had been running

so as not to "double-up" the effects.that is,

assuming all of that stuff would be inclusive

with the bounce.

guess i'm gonna take "shivermetimbers' " advice

and RTFM .....again !! sometimes with a few hints

from you guys the manual makes more sense the

second go round.

mind you I haven't done a lot of single file bounces:

but I think the whole idea is you do the bounce once

you're happy with all the plugs and automations on

that track.. and then introduce the new bounced file

as an audio file replacement to the original.. reducing

the load on your CPU.

I never said the TRACKS have bounce buttons....

If you hit the freeze button on a track, then push play, then you'll see a progress bar come up, then look in your song's folder for a folder called freeze, in there you should find a file with some really odd name, if you play that in say QT or so, you'll probably have your frozen track.

If you UNfreeze that track, then that file will disappear.

Magically.

really?

bounce buttons are on the individual tracks next to the mute and record etc button

not trying to start anything but maybe you thought you wrote "freeze buttons" in the original post.. either way I think 1pauper1 gets the idea now.
