Simply Great
I have a 20" iMac 2.0 Ghz G5 with 1.5 gigs of ram and I run Logic 7 with all the software upgrades Apple has issued. I have major problems with recording, it keeps popping up those dang system overload/ disk to slow messages. Is there something I can do to optimize my system better or do I just need to upgrade to a new computer...in these songs I tend to have roughly 20-30 tracks and 10-20 buses. Any suggestions?? triplets
Leopard is a little heavier on the graphics side. If you're mixing do you increase your buffer? When do you get these overload messages? Do you record to your internal HD or to an external firewire HD? Remember you have a single CPU and only 1.5 gigs. Logic likes dual CPUs. If you have the money upgrade to the new iMacs (if you like that type of computer) and get additional RAM later (RAM at the Apple Store is way expensive). You can get a refurbished current generation iMac for 999 now at the Online Apple Store.
Simply Great
I record directly to the internal 250 gb HD and I always leave the buffer set to large at all times. The messages pop up usually when I record more than 30 secs of audio with a few plug-ins ie: a guitar with guitar amp pro. Should I try recording without any plug-ins and then add them later? I really like the iMac, but I would really like to have portability, so would a mabook be good enough, or would I need a macbook pro?
triplets
First, the difference between Macbook and MBPro is that the latter has a dedicated graphics card which is better for Logic. Second, try to avoid recording to the system drive because you creating too much work for the drive and the cpu. Third, if your computer dies for any reason, you won't lose your work, so an external HD is always a good precaution.
Simply Great
which external drive would you recommend, and would firewire be the best or would USB or ethernet etc. be better???
triplets
For external HDs I go to www.macsales.com and definitely choose Firewire because USB is no good for audio. At this website you can get a 500GB HD for 150 bucks!
