Routing Audio to External Gear

Hi,

Is it possible to route an audio file to external gear for processing, I am assuming it is but the real question I guess is do you then record this to another track or uses BUSSES to handle the routing etc.

Thanks

You don't need to use busses or aux if you insert an i/o plugin. You may then record the output of your hardware (to a new track or to a new instance of the same track, and then mute the original), but you'll need to realign it. Delay compensation applies only to the plugin.

HTH.

either I/O plugin or the stupid way (still, with no buses and auxes)

-you set an output on a track (actually a pair, then you pan it either hard left or hard right) to which your gear is connected

-create another audio track

-set input on the track to which the gear is connected

-hit record

probably the taxiway01 method is better

It's not better, but it really is easier and it allows you to bypass your outboard gear in one click, plus to keep your previous signal flow untouched, plus to integrate plugins and hardware processors seamlessly, plus to remain able to switch your different units (eq before or after comp, etc) regardless of their hard or soft nature. The inputs and outputs on the i/o plug are just the same as the ones on your channel strip!

But anyway, it's whatever works. No rule here either. :)
