Syncing Yamaha EX5r to Logic 8

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a simple-ish way to make an ex5r based rig sync to my Logic 8 rig. Don't need any program change or controller info, basically just want to pass position and transport controls from Logic 8 to the ex5r rig (which is being played by another human).

I understand that I can send either MTC or midi clock from Logic. Which would be more suitable for this application? As I said, we only need to transmit play/stop and song position... on-the-fly tempo adjustments would be great too. Would either one of the formats be better if, down the road, we want to start sending program change info?

Also, I want to patch the ex5r controller through my Logic rig. Doing this out of necessity (shortage of ports) and out of want: Want to be able to record the other player's midi-notes. So basically I want that other player's midi controller notes to be passing through my Logic rig, probably through a splitter in the Logic Environment. Is this workable? How does one go about getting that midi information to travel out of Logic, and can it be sent on the same port/channel as the MTC or midi clock? (I think I just answered this question for myself: set the ex5r to listen for controller info on one channel, and mtc / clock info on another channel - please correct me if I'm wrong)

yeah, we'll be trying to do this on sunday, will post my results. This stuff always seems fairly straight forward when you're looking at a manual, but gets ugly once you start patching cables and messing around with the environment.
