Poppa Lars
Hello peoples, Let´s for now forget that nobody seems to get Logic´s EVOC to sound anything remotely like for instance Roger Troutman et. al. At least as far as I can deduct reading the answers to those posting THAT question. I myself have bought a Rocktron Banshee, and hooked it up so my sequenced synth-parts are routed to this. Works great! But, and there is always a but, do any of you guys have any tips in getting the raw synth-tone needed to make a talkbox sound great? I understand most use Minimoogs etc., but one would think it would be possible to do with Logic´s internal synths...? Any tips or synth-presets laying around? I run Logic 7, if that matters. Hicksyfern
There was a video on Youtube of some guy getting the synth sound on a Yamaha DX something, possible DX9. It should be useful, but I can't find the link I'm afraid.
shivermetimbers
No 'butts' about it. There is one, and only one, sound like the TALK BOX. That is a talk box. You can search the world far and wide to find the talk box will sound the same no matter what language you are in, no matter what planet you are from. You pump an amplified guitar or keyboard through the tube and shape the sound with your mouth. It is an analog signal that isn't going to be reproduced in a software program. This is an example of the HARMONIZER - Imogen Heap (Hide and Seek): 5cpSv2mNhhc Here is it's grandfather, the VOCODER - Laurie Anderson ( O Superman) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXtub5JfyeQ This is the Talk Box - Joe Walsh (Rocky Mountain Way) no relation to either of the above. 3:12 into the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwyj7L-LUBM&feature=related
Poppa Lars
Hello, and thanks for the replies, If you re-read my question, it should be obvious that I know that the Talkbox is analoge, and I am not looking for the software equivalent - but tips on getting the source sound needed to make it pop! Obviously, it will not sound the same if you pump an acoustic gitar through it instead of a raw synth tone. And that´s what I am after, a few tips on getting the best source.... IRV
Hi there, I myself work with a Banshee and Logic Pro. For years i've studied Teddy Riley, Roger Troutman and other greats... on the net there's a lot of discussion and so about "that sound" "the needed synths" etc.... i've noticed a lot of people don't really unnderstand the whole thing. BUT.... I've used a Roland JV-1080 for this purpose alone for years. I shaped/edited a mono sawtooth... and got close. Used a Yamaha DX as well... and got very close. For Logic synths... just get the ES2 and work from one of the mono swatooth lead synths... then shape it till you got what you want (filters). And what you want is a dry, mono signal with no effects on it whatsoevever. Just one with a lot of drive and punch... and always use a sawtooth sound for starters! I get a nice one out of Steinberg's Hypersonic. It's all about making your own mono sound... dry, fat, hard and there's no preset I foudn useful for talkboxing within the Logic synts. Hope this helps a little.

With regards, Poppa Lars/Norway There is no need to re-read your question. This is a Logic forum and not a talkbox forum. The talkbox is very easy to understand. Pump in a overdriven signal (without blowing the thing up or knocking out the fillings in your teeth) and shape the sound with your mouth. That's it! You can't put in a whimpy signal and expect to get that over driven brassy sound. Sawtooths and some phasing are probably what you are looking for... Check out the difference:
