peder
HI. I'm trying to get metronome clicks to NOT come out of my external monitors, but through the headphones.. not having much luck. I have a Macbook Pro with a EMU 0202 running Logic Pro 8. Recording with a microphone and would like to hear the click, but not have it ruining my take. I think I have checked the basics, like the audio pref pane and logic manual for ways to fixs this but may have overlooked something, so feel free to suggest something The "Metronome plays thorugh built-in speakers" doesn work for me. Hicksyfern
Sorry if this sounds a bit dull, but can't you just turn your monitors off? Or do you want the rest of the audio "ruining the take"?
lzr
I don't know much about your audio interface, but you can switch the metronome's output in Logic in the metronome settings (right click the metronome button, then click metronome settings). I'm using the RME Fireface which lets me configure the headphone jack to be an output other than 1+2. Try switching the output to something else then looking in your audio interface's settings to see if you can configure which output correlates with the headphone jack. Hicksyfern
The audio interface in question only has 2 out busses I believe, rendering this unlikely/impossible. Can't see why the monitors just can't be switched off the more I read the OP.
peder
Good point about turning off the monitors.. should have specified.. I want the click through my headphones, if I turn off the monitors I wont get the click... just.. well.. nothing. Also, I cant seem to use a different source for output then I use for input, ie. use the emu for input and built in headphones for output. The audio interface does have a jack-out for headphones, but I can only get it to work in direct monitor mode. So... still no click Anyway, thanks for the amazingly fast responses, guys. Hicksyfern
In my Firewire410 there is an option to choose where the headphones get their source in the utility that comes with it, so there may be something similar. I'm still not quite sure I get what you're saying though. Does the EMU box act as an output as well - i.e. does it plug in by USB and then you plug your monitors into its outputs? If so, surely the headphones aren't just for monitoring the input are they? Can you not listen to your general system audio through the headphones? peder
shivermetimbers: No wonder you have 1200+ posts To answer ypur question Hicksyfern, at the metronome settings pane I can only choose 1+2 as output.. and the emu software is, as usual, worthless. You can only change the samplerate. I've just been checking and strange things are happening. When not running logic and connecting headphones through the jack out on the MBP and try playing a song in itunes I get what I want, sound coming just through the headphones. I then start Logic but the metronome STILL comes through the monitors.. THEN I try itunes again, while running Logic, and the itunes song comes through headphones. Sorry if this confuses you.. I'm certainly confused The best solution would just be to buy a decent audio interface, but that's not an option ATM. Let me know if there is any part of this I am explaining badly.. Hicksyfern
EDIT: I just re-read your post a few up. Um. I don't think you can use 2 interfaces (emu and Mac headphone jack) at the same time. There is surely a way of getting system audio out of the EMU, else it's a pretty pointless interface. Does it come with a manual?
peder
I do get system output out of the emu... the problem is when I connect a headphone in the outjack on the MBP all audio is routed to the headphones, as it should, EXCEPT from logic pro.. pretty strange if you ask me
