Aramism
hi real quick question. this goes for LP7 but how do you move regions by milliseconds? i know with the key commands there are a bunch of nudge options like nudge by event, bar, smpte, etc. i know it's a pretty basic question but help would be appreciated. for instance i want to move a snare track 2 milliseconds to the left (earlier) for instance when i select the region and start to drag it the yellow thing comes up. here is the pic - > http://66.181.209.3/ARAM/NUDGE.jpg as you can see on the bot right it says "2 4 4 229" it is breaking it down in forms of the bars and the measures but how can i see this in milliseconds? thanks in advance. David Nahmani
1) Click the little note icon to the right of the time ruler and choose "Bar & Time". 2) Choose Preferences > Display and set "Display SMPTE" to "With Milliseconds". Now look at the yellow help tag.

BJA
I am coming from PT LE to Logic 8 and am used to shifting by milliseconds. I figured out how to change the timeline, but as far as I can tell, there isn't a way to shift by some arbitrary amount of milliseconds. Is there some shift function other than nudge that allows me to type in a shift amount?

David Nahmani
Here I am moving a region two milliseconds to the right (from 01:00:54.000).
BJA
Ahh, I see. Did you hold shift + control for that? That's how I got it to work. This seems to be a good alternative to the PT way.
Aramism
yes but i have LP7 not
BJA
I suppose most of the default key commands are the same still. Still, I would like to know if there is a way(other than dragging) to shift a region early or late by, say, 2048 samples. In PT LE, I use UAD plugs. Since PTLE lacks PDC, I have to manually compensate by shifting the audio regions, usually by some multiple of 1024. I know I won't have to deal with this problem in Logic, but it would be nice to know how to easily shift by amounts like this if I ever find myself needing it for some reason. fader8
In PT LE, I use UAD plugs. Since PTLE lacks PDC, I have to manually compensate by shifting the audio regions, Wow. That's doin it the hard way! Do you find some advantage to this over simply reading the track delays and using time adjustor plugs? Ah, maybe you're doing this to make overdubs easier? I know I won't have to deal with this problem in Logic, but it would be nice to know how to easily shift by amounts like this if I ever find myself needing it for some reason. Since Pro Tools only has a few value options for ms nudge which are not configurable, I've not found it useful for moving a region a specified ms amount. I just do it the same way in PT that David described above for Logic.
BJA
Yeah, for overdubs. It never fails that someone wants to add a part or re-do a vocal after the mix is started. In PT LE, when I want to move a region by a specified ms amount, I just use the Alt-H key command(region shift) and type in the number. I guess I'm still trying to hold on to what I'm used to. I still need a lot more experience in Logic before I feel comfortable with it.
