dsounds
Hi, as a quite new user of Logic 8 I have a funny problem... Not sure if this is some kinda feature or more like bad bug. Imported melodic loops are in different note then originals...Have no idea why... Apple & Acid loops I must play with track transpose to match original file, that's crazy! Even more crazy is that some of them sound right, but most of them are out of tune. What am I missing here ? thanks!
steveH
Hey! When you audition them in the loop browser are they playing in the song's key or their original key? You can determine their playback key right in the browser itself. If you have it set to audition in the original key then when you drag them into the song they will, by design, change to match the song's key. It's best to audition them in the "song's" key while they're in the browser! Steve H.
dsounds
Hey! I guess they are playing in original key, as they sound same as in finder or itunes. So how can I do that, audition them in the song's key ? Where I can switch that ? Also where I can set song's key ? Last question, can i just import them from browser in their original key and maintain that in song ? (would love this) thx

dsounds
Thanks Cloggy, but I still don't feel stupid I was in browser all the time. How can you do this here!? (take a look at my pic) So to summarize, I want to take loop from "browser" and I want that loop to play in them same key as in browser (in it's original key). I DO NOT want the loop to auto-adapt to song's key. Is that possibile, and how ? thx again

Eric Cardenas
Noone can slove this ? I don't believe it Why don't you import the loops to your loop browser? That's the only place for changing audition key.
audiowizard
This whole "adapting to song key" crap is annoying, and I NEVER want this feature from my loops, or Logic. Is there a way to globally turn it off so Logic treats all audio files, regardless of their type, as plain old audio files, and doesn't try tweaking their key? I don't want to have to do this for each import, or drag files to some Loop Browser, or w/e. Thanks for any suggestions! Or another idea, is there a way to set the "Song Key" to "not a damn thing"? Searching the User Manual for "Song Key" doesn't come up with anything useful....
doktahyde
I know what the topic is about but how do you all write on your screen shots like that?

You can't turn that off. You could use the Finder to browse your loops (they'll play at its original pitch/tempo), then once you import it in Logic, deselect "Follow Tempo" in the Inspector. That will make them play at its original tempo / key. Or another idea, is there a way to set the "Song Key" to "not a damn thing"? Searching the User Manual for "Song Key" doesn't come up with anything useful.... Set it to "Original Key". But it will still match the tempo of the project. audiowizard
Thanks for the response David. once you import it in Logic, deselect "Follow Tempo" in the Inspector. That will make them play at its original tempo / key. Weird. The key is still off, from the original, but now it doesn't follow the Global Track Key Signature. Set it to "Original Key". But it will still match the tempo of the project. Is this only something that can be done from Logic's Loop Browser window? Because I don't use it, I don't have any loaded into it, and I drag & drop all of my audio files from their Finder directory. I guess it's looking as if I'll have to convert my loops to normal files in order to avoid this key matching thing. This really irks me, I mean Quicktime can play the file at it's normal key, why the heck can't Logic?!?!
David Nahmani
Weird. The key is still off, from the original, but now it doesn't follow the Global Track Key Signature. Yes: it's now behaving just like a plain old audio file, which doesn't follow the transposition or chord track.
David Nahmani
I mean Quicktime can play the file at it's normal key, why the heck can't Logic?!?! Because that's not the point of Apple Loops. You're trying to use a tool to do something it wasn't meant for. That's like asking why Rex files create a folder with slices when you'd like to see a plain old audio file. Note that you can also select your loops in the Arrange and choose Audio > Convert Regions to New Audio Files, save them as AIFF and they'll behave as a plain old audio file. audiowizard
Yes: it's now behaving just like a plain old audio file, which doesn't follow the transposition or chord track. No it's not, the key is still shifted, up a few notes, but it does ignore the Global Track Signature.
David Nahmani
No it's not, the key is still shifted, up a few notes, but it does ignore the Global Track Signature. You're correct, my mistake. Then convert to new audio file.
audiowizard
lol... booo. It'd be nice to see an update where Logic can choose to ignore the tempo/key signature's independently of one-another.
